Pocket squares........should you always have to use one when wearing a blazer?

I'm a big fan of wearing blazers, whether it be for a smart casual look or even for more formal occasions. I only tend to use a pocket square when dressed more formal, but do I need to use  a pocket square when dressed casual too?

 

I mean is it right to use a pocket square whenever you are wearing a blazer?

 

Are all kinds of crimes against fashion committed when a pocket square is omitted?

do you NEED to do anything? of course not. If you don't want to wear a pocket square...then don't.

I wear one most days with suits and sportcoats/blazers, but if I forget or don't feel like it, I don't and feel fine.

The thing I like about it is that its a discreet way to stand out a bit, even if wearing a CBD suit/shirt/tie.

Suppose it kind of also depends on what your wearing though as well. I mean if i was wearing a blazer/sportcoat with tshirt, jeans and canvas shoes then it might look a bit odd including a pocket square I suppose.

 

What does CBD mean?

CBD stands for central business district, or what you would wear to work. I have never walked past anyone sporting a pocketsquare in the office or at the usual eateries around the office myself, but if you can wear it at your office and not get snide remarks all the power to you.

With a blazer you can really do whatever you like. If you would like to wear one then wear one. If you can't be bothered then that's ok too.

In this context, CBD refers to "conservative business dress." Though in many cities the main cluster of high rise office buildings is indeed referred to as the "Central Business District", or "CBD" for short (New Orleans and Bangalore come to mind).

I always wear a white linen or cotton square with any jacket or suit I have. Always. It's subtle and plain enough to be discreet but still adds interest and contrast to the jacket by adding asymmetry. Especially so with a white shirt, which I also wear almost exclusively.

For a blazer pocket square I always pinch the middle and do a puff fold and just ram it in, especially if I'm not wearing a tie. you don't want anything too formal, leave that for suits.

You don't need to wear a pocket square. There is no crime in not wearing one. But, well dressed men usually wear them because the right pocket square will add a bit of style to any blazer or suit. It is an ideal way to compliment the colors and patterns in the rest of your outfit. It really doesn't matter how casual or formal you are dressed.

My dad left me a couple dozen pocket squares of all types of colors and patterns. I love using them because I always have something new and interesting to coordinate with my ties and make the outfit pop.
