Ironic that Jeeves was speaking of clothes that weren't (in my words) 'appropriate' or 'did not fit'.

Wodehouse never seems to transfer his brilliance to film either. IMO he is best experienced through the written word.

Some good points have been made here so far. In my opinion, you can't dress well unless your look is coherent with who you are and, to a lesser extent, where you are. You probably can't pull off a black leather perfecto jacket if you're a married, middle-aged accountant from Ottawa and you'll most likely look like a fool if you wear a pinstriped business suit to a dive bar.
