Trickers or Cheaney Boots

I'm in the market for a pair of dark brown boots and I'm interested in getting one from either Cheaney or Trickers. I'm interested in either a plain cap toe or a brogue but without pebble grain finish. Both rubber or leather soles are fine. What are you're recommendations?

Go Cheaney, in my experience the quality is higher and much more comfortable long term.

Any model recommendations?

Afraid not. I've actually been looking for a decent boot, but I'm after closed lacing. I've yet to find one from anyone at under $750.

I've got several Cheaney shoes though and they feel significantly nicer than my Trickers. Good luck!

I like Cheaney and what they offer, have a number of pairs. Trickers I now only have the one pair, as their RTW lasts aren't a great fit for me and many of their styles aren't too my taste.

In terms of construction, material etc Cheaney are well made, but Trickers are extremely well made and their leather quality at the price is second to none for the styles offered.

These Trickers "Derby Boots" (commonly confused with, but are -not- the Stowe model) make the rounds on Sierra Trading post fairly frequently. They're currently listed there at $499 but at least once a year, there's a deal where you can get them in the $240-$300 range. I picked up a pair last year in coffee and couldn't be happier - especially at the price.

They aren't fine/elegant boots, but can still look good in winter dress flannels or heavily worsted trousers:

If you search the forum for Trickers and Derby boots, you'll find a number of threads with a lot more detail and info.

I was very tempted by the Cheaney Cleveland brogues that are now on sale:

I ended up with Barker Harrisons from Pediwear instead b/c they have a waterproof lining and rubber sole.

Good luck & let us know what you end up doing.

Ended up ordering the Cheaney FS029 from the factory. Now just waiting for them to arrive. Pretty excited.

Trickers also use lot of cow leather instead of calf.
Trickers do big double sole shoe style very well (one of best for factory brand),
but only 4.5 spi on sole on all me pair. ffffuuuu.gif

The Cheaney FS029 was a big hit some time ago on SF. I do not own the FS029, but I have a couple of Tricker's Stows and have owned the Barker Harrison. I've heard great things about Cheaney since they Church brothers buy-back so I am confident you'll be more than happy with the FS029.

In regards to quality, I think Tricker's is definitely up there when it comes to country boots (but price is also high). The Harrisons were also nice but below those of my Stows (they are much lower in price which is expected). Razl: I like the STP boots (single sole which makes it slightly sleeker compared to the burly Stow) but alas, the don't go small enough in size.

One brand that was not mentioned that I believe should have been is Alfred Sargent. They make a nice range of shoes and I have owned their Country line boots and they were definitely sturdy.
