trouser cinching - how much?

I have a buyer interested in some trousers of mine for sale that have cinches. Given the measurements, he is concerned that he would be cinching approximately 1.5" total (so 3/4" per side) when wearing them and was wondering if that was too much?

I only have one pair of trousers that I wear with cinches and i never really paid attention to how much/little cinching is actually going on. For comparison, I tried mine on and found that I'm actually cinching 2 inches total, which sounds like a lot but, in reality, looks perfectly fine even from the side.

So, I'm curious, how much or little cinching is proper? I'd especially like to hear from anyone who has had pants made with cinching - do you get them with your proper waist size (not expecting to cinch at all) or a little larger - and, if so how much - with the expectation that you'll always cinch down?

Do you mean side adjusters? If so I'd assume you mean the Mr. Ned jobs? The trousers I own that have side tab adjusters are usually listed with 1-2" give or take to accommodate. So 1.5" is not that much. I'm assuming he has a 29.5" waist?

Yes, those are the trousers, and yes, I mean "side adjusters", and yes he has an approx 29.5 waist. You're scoring a gold star for deduction today!

Sounds like you're confirming what I thought - that 1.5 is aok. The reason why I asked was mostly because, if I had a pair of pants that needed a 1.5 adjustment, they'd be at the tailors pronto. But with side adjusters, there's a lot more latitude in the actual size since - obviously - one can adjust them. It's just that I never really thought about it like that (ie "I'm normally a 33w, but I've got this pair of 34s with adjusters" - sounds odd until you think about it)

Sounds fine to me. There's probably some personal taste involved. But I'd definitely want some room in there in case I gained weight.
