Someone please tell me what's wrong with Hugo Boss Tux.. Serious question.. - Page 2

They had 2 styles available at the sample sale. One was "Spartaco" the one i got was the other. Will post the name when i get the chance.

Edit: The one i got was a Quirinale. Both were one button single breasted peak lapel, with no vents

I would buy the Hugo Boss because it doesn't seem you will use this very often, might as well save the money for other purpose.

Obviously if you want to get better ones please do, but I am a little bit afraid you will rarely use it, so why get a proper nice one?

p.s. May I ask whether it is your idea or your son's idea that the dad should wear a tux?

Just my $0.02

Which Brioni style, if I can ask? I found (in a local clothier via mail order) two style of Brioni one button tux's for under $600, but carries a 10% restocking fee for a return.. I'm trying to see if someone else at least carries the same style so I can try one on. It's also a 38R.

I have a brand new with tags Ralph Lauren Black Label tux for sale in 38R...........fit would be very similar to HB Cary Grant. Retail is currently $2300 on their website.

I'll make you a killer deal.......PM me if interested!

Don't get me wrong, I think the Hugo Boss is a fine looking tuxedo.  That said, people here have been kind enough to point out how and what I should look for to maximize any investment. As an example, if the Baroni I'm also looking at is more classically stitched and is likewise a good fit and style (and just happens to be $200+ less) than I'd be foolish not to consider it.

As for whose idea it is, the entire wedding is black tie optional, however both fathers have been asked to be in tux's. Just curious, why do you ask?

Im not in any way affiliated with this person, but if you can get a good deal on this (on par or below what you were going to pay for the HB) then this might be worth looking into. RLBL is a forum favorite, and if im not mistaken are made by Caruso which is a top notch maker

Fused crap in essence.

If one fits and you are not too fussy about appearance then go for it.

I like direct and to the point.  I have a single button Hickey Freeman on the way, so I be able to assess your evaluation of HB as a brand (fused notwithstanding).  :-)  Seriously, thanks for taking the time. I've learned a tremendous amount in just these few replies from everyone.

I'd buy the one in a store, where I could try it on in bright light with 3-way mirrors, where tailoring would be easy and guaranteed (i.e., they screw it up, they fix it or refund you).

If you trust your local alterations person to do a good job, the tailoring is not such a problem.

But I think a lot of people have trouble seeing themselves in a new suit at home. Hence the "bathroom mirror at work" shot that was once a staple of the WAYWN threads. It seems that a lot of people have to go to work to find a brightly-lit room with open space and a giant mirror.

You can't buy it on ebay and go to the mall to borrow a fitting room & fitting room mirror. I don't think you can, at least.

Mail ordering a suit, making a competent decision that it fits, that it matches the description of what you paid for, and getting it tailored locally is not a good way for a suit-buying noob to save money.

Likewise I would stay away from used suits, which be fitted & tailored for another body, until you are a suit-buying sharpie. Even then you may always do better buying new.

70% wool? Why doesn't it say wtf the other 30% is? This makes me somewhat suspicious of that eBay seller...the fact that the pic is labelled 'DesignersDealsForYou' (sic) does not help either.

Dewey..

Right now it is a combination of both in-store and ordering, perhaps something I saw in a store, from stores where I can go locally with the Tux if needed or return it there. It's not so much that I'm new to buying suits, but the Tux things is just an added twist because of the frequency question...  I would never buy on EBay, at least not a Tux!!!  :-)  While I don't have  3 way mirror at home, there is certain feel you get when you know something fits well...just like there is a certain feel when you know you're wearing a sack (at least in terms of fit).

Again, so far, it's been a lot of evaluating. I do a fine tailor locally who is very versed in high end suits and tux's, so I'm pretty confident there.  Also agree about used suits.. something I wouldn't entertain.

Thanks for all the help!
