Career move from US to the UK, specifically London

Thread Starter
So I did a few admittedly desultory searches on SF and found nothing on this subject. Apologies if I missed anything.

I work in corporate strategy/ business development for a US based leading TV media company. To give more perspective- I am in the middle- senior middle management category (Director and above) and would be searching for jobs in that range or above.

I am seriously thinking of relocating to the UK in the course of this year and need need help with identifying UK specific job boards and leading recruitment agencies, hopefully those that focus on media jobs, but any suggestion would be welcome.

Of course, if Yahoo Jobs or Monster is the best answer then it is what it is. I was hoping for more specific insights/ names.

Thanks for the help.

Is there any particular criteria which has to maintain while moving from US to UK? What all documents should carry?

This is a very unwise move at the moment especially with the way the UK media is cutting back huge amounts of jobs. The USA is where most media workers are relocating to especially LA

With the salary to expenditure ratio closing all of the time you would probably have to take extra hours from the get go just to survive as I take it you would want to live in a half decent area

Us people in the UK know what a ****hole London is and it is certainly not a wise move

I currently looking for a move back to the UK from Brasil and have been hitting up many of the internet job sites. I have reed.co.uk to be a good one and also im having luck with linkedin. Just follow up an applications with a call to the agent and then they will contact you with anything that comes up.

just one more thing, im a little confussed by the level you are looking for.
You state middle- senior middle management category (Director and above). now where i have been looking, director is senior management, at least for banking anyway.
im currently looking at middle- senior middle management whihc is the level below director

I really suggest during this time.. Don't get caught up with the Economic low in the UK just yet - Work a few, you may not find the career you were seeking and These problems causes real problems!

I actually had a slight thought about this as well. But, man...cost of living in London is expensive! From the VAT to just costs of things in general, compared to the U.S.

You must have a great paying job if you can afford to rent a flat by yourself. Streets are small so driving is more difficult than it is here. Cars are also more expensive.

If you want to move to London, bear in mind the cost of living is like Downtown Manhattan and the quality of life is like Detroit.

The most comprehensive site for media and broadcast jobs in the UK is grapevine. That's where the vast majority of big players choose to advertise.

Not sure why you'd want to move here unless your company has offices here and can give you a transfer. The media industry especially is probably at its most competitive in its history and like others have said, it is very likely that you'll have a lower standard of living in London.

A remark made by one who clearly has not lived here and is a bit of a douche. Great city, one of the best in the world to live and work. It is difficult at present in the city for media jobs but think its hard in any big city in most of Europe and states from what I know of colleagues in the major cities. You may have to take a knock in living style if you are wanting to pay less then $1500 per month so have a look on this sight and see what you an afford can get you as an experiment.

I work in London but now live about 10 miles outside of it (used to live in it about 5 years ago and have a lot of colleagues that still live in the city) which gets me a better accommodation for less rent but you will spend the difference on travel because of that.

Hope helps.
