Apparently, a team of researchers at Notre Dame was able to use E.Coli to manufacture spider silk. You guys think we'll see some fine spider silk scarves or socks in the next few decades?

Look at how nice this stuff is:

That is so cool.

I first read about it years ago - spider silk is literally one of nature's most remarkable products: incredibly strong, incredibly light, super-versatile (used as a structural material, a weapon, a mode of conveyance, and so on). I would buy spidersilk products in a heartbeat.

If nothing else, I'd love to have gossamer-thin yet strong and insulating baselayers.

(I'd say something about "Drow" but I don't want to peg myself as a nerd :))

what's drow?

I've never felt spider silk material up close...I hope it feels like cashmere.

it probably does... silky feel, but much stronger. It still SOUNDS kinda creepy tho.

I think that "drow" is some Dungeons&Dragons ****... I had to look it up. Thus DH's "nerd" comment.
