Where to shop in montréal?

I will be making a business trip in the next week to the storied city of Montréal, and I was wondering if there are any worthwhile locations to shop. I'd especially like to know if there any discount outlets in the vicinity. Also, are there any stores that would offer deals similar to those of Century-21, Off 5th, Last Call, etc.? I'm told there is a Lacoste outlet, but that's all I know. While I may be from the North East, I'm woefully ignorant of the Canadian retail experience. Thanks in advance .

Can't help you out on where to find outlets, during my four years in montreal I never ventured outside of the downtown area for shopping and I'm almost sure there none to be found there. Personally I don't think Montreal is all that great for shopping, but there a few good places. In Les Cours Mont Royal I would suggest you check out he following boutiques: Harry Rosen, Venus, Artimetik, Space FB(for trendy sportswear). Zara and the SECOND FLOOR of Simons are also not bad, they are located in between Les Cours and the Eaton Centre. I wouldn't bother wasting time going through the Eaton centre at all there is nothing useful to be found there. Holt Renfrew on sherbrooke might be another option, actually I think Holts has an outlet outside of Montreal but I'm not sure guess you can always ask the people working there. For shoes Browns on Ste.Catherine has got the largest selection in Montreal while you are there you can also visít Mens on the corner of Ste.catherine and Crescent but don't go into Hugo on Crescent, the ppl working there are just plain rude and they have a bunch of overpriced crap. Energie on Peel has a real good slection also there are a couple of boutiques there on Peel that carry Prada, which makes Peel st the only place, other than the limited selection they have at Holts, where you can get Prada in Montreal.

Valmont--thanks a lot. While the city's offerings don't sound so exciting, you've given me some hope. It's better than nothing. I'll let you know how it goes.

In Les Cours Montreal (on peel st.) there's a store with GIORGIO on the window (i'm not sure if that's the actual name of the store). It's at the intersection of peel and maisonneuve. I saw some very good deals there the last time i went looking, unfortunately nothing that i wanted was in my size. This is the same place that i saw super 150s sulka(sp?) pants for $350 on sale. There's some junk in that store, but there's a few good things if you can find your size. Other than that, i'd say harry rosen is your best bet although i was there last week and there isn't a whole lot left in the sales. If you continue up peel, past de maisonneuve, you'll come to a store with a very attractive exterior called etcetera. It's the only store in montreal that carries baldessarini if you're in to that kinda thing. They're having sales right now although i haven't been in to the store since the beginning of july. Montreal isn't new york but it's far from a bad shopping city, you just have to know where to look. I've found everything from john lobb to ysl rive gauche here. Oh and stay out of the boutiques immediately across the street from harry rosen ;p
