Need suggestions for a 'fuller' cut 38S interview suit

Hey Guys,

I need to buy a new interview suit. According to the rules, I am looking for a basic solid grey/ charcoal 100% wool suit. My first thought was Hickey Freeman main line which are supposed to be a little more classic cut than the Hickey line. The problem with that has been finding one in my size. I went to the Neiman Marcus Last Call in San Jose and I think the 38 fit well but they didn't have one in short. Also, the 32 inch waist on the pants is very true to size, which might be a bit of a problem shog[1].gif. I wear a size 33 in jeans(Luckys, Gap) which I have come to realize is more like size 34-36 in formal pants.

Any suggestions on how I should approach would be greatly appreciated. Specially if someone could point out local Bay Area places where I can try before buying would be perfect.

Thanks.

brooks brothers. I drop 4 is pretty rare, so you may need to look for suit separates.

Btw, if you are a 38 jacket and a 36 pants, you need to hit the god damn treadmill.

Perhaps instead of a roomy 38, you get a slimmer 40s? That should at least get you to a 34 waist as most suits are a drop 6.

You can usually let the waist out about 2 inches, sometimes a bit more, just look at the seams and see how much additional fabric is available.

Hickey Freemen was a good thought ,but you could try a Brooks Bros 1818 (not the Fitz) or Samuelsohn.

If you can't find a good fit, you might need to look at MTM. You can get into Samuelsohn MTM for about $1000, perhaps less if you can time it with a trunk show. Or check the B&S forum here for a deal. Just be sure of your measurements.

A less expensive option would try eHaberdasher.com and see if Ben can get you seperates in a solid in his Benjamin Sartorial line (I think he will do this in the solid grey and navy). If he can't, I know the Wizard of Ahhs will do seperates, so you can check him out on ebay. The Benjamin is going to be better quality though.

you start letting pants out 2 inches or more (which would still get him only to the bottom of the range) and the pockets are going to start looking like the nipples on a bad boob job. (i.e. very far apart and facing away from each other)

Thanks for the suggestions regarding suit and otherwise... no shit I need to hit the gym, which I already am btw .. but I think I will need the suit before I can start fitting the standard drop 6 configuration.

@Quadcammer .. where did you go for your MBA? (obviously saw this in the last thread you started).. I ask because the waist and the suit problem is sort of related... last 3 months of cooped up indoors with GMAT and apps led to the waist (well partly). And the Suit is for the upcoming interviews.

I will try to stop by Brooks Brothers... and then maybe talk to Ben from eHaberdasher.com.

Off 5th in Milpitas always has a bunch of of orphaned pants and suit jackets. I need a suit this summer in kind of a rush and was able to find a Theory jacket and pants from the same suit but on different racks at I think $90 and $50, not bad considering the full suit was going for $600 at that point.

Drop four is called portly drop. It's not that rare at a real shop. The problem is you're a 38S. Most drop four guys are bigger then you.
