Hickey Freeman Sportcoat at Nordstrom Rack

I just picked up a plaid sport coat at Nordstrom Rack labeled "Hickey Freeman for Nordstrom".  It was marked down 75% to $300, and will be a perfect fit for me when I drop about 5-10 pounds of holiday weight.  Even the sleeves won't need to be adjusted.

My question is, is the "for Nordstrom" a problem, or is this coat of the quality I expect from Hickey Freeman?  I've seen some threads here that discuss their "Ltd." line, which is imported and of lesser quality, but this is clearly labeled "Made in the USA".  Between that and the original price, I feel like I've stumbled on quite a gem, but I wanted to consult the experts while I can still return it if I've just been duped.  I don't know how to tell from appearance or feel if it's canvased or fused, but I am aware that would shed some light on the quality.

Thanks.

It may be a custom tailored jacket that was never picked up or something of the sort. Nordstrom does use Hickey Freeman as one of their Made-to-Measure options.

Decent price but you can find better.

I've picked up several HF Mainline suits and sport coats at Nordstrom Rack, NM Last Call and Dillards. Most were in the $300 - $400 range for suits and <$200 for sport coats. Also, bought a couple of HSM Gold Trumper suits and a blazer around the same price. If it fits and you need it, it's a great deal. Just watch out for the "...and will be a perfect fit for me when I drop about 5-10 pounds of holiday weight."

Not a great deal. Decent, but not great. It could still be a Ltd. model. They are made in the USA. You have to look at the internal tag. Also, I find that buying clothes based on expected future weight loss is a bad idea.

I have one of these I bought used. The tag says customer #: 1234567 and later it says "lot number . It may indicate that a customer special ordered it, but I don't know. It is fully canvassed and fits great, though.

If you're in love with it, then $300 in your (soon-to-be*) size is an acceptable deal - especially if your size is hard to find. And doubly so if you're certain it'll be a perfect fit and won't need any alterations at all. But don't get roped in on the "75% off"; there's plenty of deals to be found at better than that.

*be careful with this - many people have big ticket items hanging in their closets endlessly awaiting the loss of those 5-10 pounds. B&S is littered with them...

I have two that I picked up in B&S NWT $400 for both of them. Both are canvased and one is a Navy 3-2-1 felt with a plad in it. Great jacket for the winter months. The other is a small POW in a wool/silk blend in a cream, navy, tan and it is a great summer jacket.

Both were taken to Centofani and fit juat about perfectly now.

Thanks everyone.  I'll inspect it more carefully to see if I can get any more details out.  I certainly appreciate everyone's caution about buying clothes that "may fit, if only...".  In this particular case, the jacket just barely shows that it's too small when buttoned.  The average Joe on the street likely wouldn't even notice.  And for me, 5 pounds is typically less than 2 weeks of being good.

I also appreciate the comment about 75% off not being the most amazing deal.  Certainly better deals can be found, but I was hoping that a $1200 original price may shed some light on the specific line or quality of the jacket.  I realize that retail price is hardly an indicator of quality or value, but other posts led me to believe that the inferior HF lines didn't tend to even MSRP that high.

With practice, I'm sure I'll be able to judge quality better even on tagless items.

$1200-$1400 is the marked price on these. I think my flannel was marked $1,800 but that is the exception rather than the rule.

Post pictures of the jacket and more importantly the fit.

Welcome to SF.

What is the model name on the interior tag in the upper right hand corner? The 'for Nordstrom' suits I have seen have been fully Canvassed and on par with the HF Collection lines.

I think that I got the same one as you from my local Rack. The description is the same and it's a HF for Nordstrom. They had a few of them in different sizes. The tag on mine says it is a Beacon model, which is in the HF Mahogany Collection. It is fully canvassed and I am very happy with it. I hope you're enjoying.
