I am trying to find out what most SFers spend on their ties. I think this would be useful as many SFers have very nice ties and I'm curious to find out what most of y'all pay.

All ranges. I've spent less than 20 and more than 200.

$50 - $90.
> $100, tie would have to be outrageously beautiful or rare with seven fold implicitly assumed.
I have paid less than $20 for a great tie, either eBay fluke or thrifting score.

I've never spent more than $99 on a tie (Panta - I have 3 now). Most others have been bought on B&S at deeply discounted prices.

Never spent more than $100 on a tie. Never listed one for more than that either (except a couple super rare TF soporifics)

Some good deals to be found in the B&S. Davesmith, Spoo, and yours truly. biggrin.gif

*shrug*

It varies, and by enough that I can't really answer the poll in a helpful way. I buy ties only when I really like the pattern, fabric, feel and width. If I'm lucky, that sometimes means I pay relatively little, sometimes it's a fair bit more. On average, my annual tie spend is very low anyway, as I don't buy them at all frequently. In fact, I'd probably be well-served by culling some of the ones I already have, but I actually tried this a while back and found I could only get rid of a few because I really liked all the rest. Oh well, at least it stops me buying more! :)

I think I once paid $40 for a used Hermes, but that's the most. Ties are one area where I've found you can save a ton of money with no compromise in quality by going the secondhand route.

Whatever Sam Hober is charging.

Silk ties do not have that much life. They are one of the last things I'd thrift.

I don't spend anything on ties. I have one tie that was a gift from two years ago, still sealed in its packet.

From $35 - $75 for my ties so far. Most of the brands I like can be found on discount, so I tend to wait for a good price. I would make an exception for Tom Ford ties though, some of those look fantastic.

Wait for a sale, stock up on Drakes and Charvet--about $75 a pop.
