Reading info from Barbour, my understanding is new Beauforts come with internal zips that now replace what used to be internal studs for a liner. I bought a used Beaufort for about $100 and when it arrived found it has only studs for a hood and no internal attachment points for a lining at all. Anybody know what's going on here?

Barbour experts: Beaufort with no internal studs OR zippers?

The regular Beauforts have zippers now—I have a size small "Vintage" style brown Beaufort that happily takes a 36" quilted liner.
I know Barbour make lightweight models out of various materials, not just waxed cotton. Perhaps they are not intended to be used in colder weather, and it is one of these that you have purchased?

Good thought, but there is no doubt that this is a thornproof waxed cotton garment. Although it needs a rewaxing, the exterior is definitely waxy and the interior tags have all the usual "do not put this in a washing machine or try to iron it like a fool" warnings. I wonder if there were a few models that were made at some time with no options for liners. It would be kind of a drag because one of the reasons I chose a Beaufort was to be able to use a quilted liner.

I had a Barbour Solway back in the day, I remember snaps for a lining and a blue tartan lining, I bought a new Border this season at Stollery's and it had a green tartan lining and zippers. Isn't the Beaufort a shorter length shooting jacket? Try online for specs, it should mention if it will take a lining. How old is it? I believe that jacket was introduced in the 80's, if I'm mistaken, please correct me.

Beaufort is the basic one, just long enough to cover a sport coat. The Barbour-branded stores in the UK will sell you one by default, or maybe a Bedale if you'll never wear it over something. Because it's a "standard" cut there are many variations, like my "Vintage" fit model. It, for some reason, is missing snaps for a hood.
