It had been on the cards for quite a few years, now it's official: Berluti will expand from footwear (and leather goods) to become a 'total lifestyle' designer label.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/14/f...ian-is-premier-but-french-are-the-owners.html

After all, if you want to keep yourself exclusive as a footwear maker, you cannot expand permanently and swamp the market with more and more shoes available in more and more retail outlets, soon reducing the 'exclusivity' tag.

The new menswear label and it's first collection will be presented on Friday in Paris.

In a move to ensure exclusivity, Berluti menswear must be laundered in champagne.

Not just any champagne - Veuve Clicquot at a minimum.

I wonder how long it will take them to develop a patinated suit? Or at very least ties and squares.

That would be phenomenal. I'd buy that brand in a heartbeat just for the champagne.

So now I can get a coordinated outfit to go with my Frankenstein shoes? Any word on neck bolts?

I would gladly give you a crisp $5 to wear that.

The neck bolts are being forged in bronze by deaf and blind monks in the highest reaches of Himalyas. However, their work has been delayed due to a lack of the appropriately sanctioned wood required to smelt the ores. This wood, which is derived from the old growth remains of Italian Pine (Pinus Pinea) is harvested only from the southern slopes of the Italian Alps where it grows extremely slowly due to the constant grazing of the sheep which run free range through the moutain meadows.

As we know you are comitted to obtaining only the very finest in neck bolts we trust you will understand the unavoidable delays. As they are inherent to the fully bespoke bolt creation process.

For some reason, the first thing that popped into my head was: Jeepers Creepers.

Followed shortly after by the infamous Dr Hannibal Lecter and his protege, Buffalo Bill.

Are those stitched from human skin perhaps? Might explain the strange patina...
