Alright, so i was thinking about purchasing a nice pair of dress shoes for my boyfriend's birthday & was wondering how many of you wear Bruno Magli and if you like them? I've been browsing for a few hours and found these and thought they looked nice.

Are they a good value? Any feedback would be helpful! Thanks!

My goodness no! For that price, you can do loads better. Those shoes by Bruno Magli are probably [not sure from the picture] made of corrected grain leather of some kind, are made on a not very aesthetically pleasing last, and appear to be glued together.

Peruse the following sites, at your leisure:

www.leffot.com
www.leathersoulhawaii.com
www.thearmoury.com
www.shoesnorthampton.co.uk/

Look at C&J, Alden, and Carmina in your price range.

Carmina:

Are Allen Edmonds the best??

Since you're clearly not the typical consumer, hopefully a lot of the SF snark will be turned down quite a bit for you. As was mentioned, the Bruno Magli shoes are utter garbage. For that price point, you'd be MUCH better served looking into one of the other brands mentioned on here.

The problem with buying online is that he will not be properly sized, which includes both a length and width component. I personally prefer Allen Edmonds to the other brands listed solely based on personal fit--that of course will not be the case for him. C&J or Crockett and Jones are arguably the best shoes in the world in terms of price to value. As such, I would recommend looking into them.

No. But they are the first rung on the high-end shoe ladder, so to speak. They are the least expensive [well, one of the] shoes that are made from full-grain leather and are goodyear welted. They are a good buy if you are looking in the $200.00 range.

if buy online,
get shoe with return policy,
it might not fit.
or buy from shop to get good fit.
Many online shoe not fit,
could buy something else.

There are better shoes that can be had for that price. I have one pair of Brunomaglis though - wingtips bought on deep discount for $125... super comfortable and leather is soft as butter.

I've owned 20 pair of Bruno Magli shoes over the years and I just beat them up too bad for what they cost to replace.

Years ago they used to re-work the shoes for you if you had a couple of months to wait and wanted to ship them back to them with your receipt.

They do it for some people but reality is, there are a lot of better ways to go. If you like them buy them, he probably wont know the intricacies of fine shoe cobbling anyway.

I still have several pair of Bruno Magli cap toe shoes I bought 20 years ago. Unfortunately, Bruno Magli of today is not the shoe company they used to be. Their quality and style have gone down to the point they are no longer worth buying. My recent shoe purchased are mostly Allen Edmonds and Alden -- far better quality for less money. My suggestion is to take your boyfriend shoe shopping. Shoes are too hard to buy for someone as a gift. Also, stay away from split toes.

I hate to be the bastard that says this but ....

Why buy your boyfriend shoes for birthday?

It is best that couples do not buy each other clothes as a suprise particularly when they have not tried them on. Ties etc fine, but actual clothes/shoes is not a good idea.

If you insist on buying him shoes, then take him to the mall / department store, let him try on the shoes he likes, and pull out your credit card. Wont be much of a suprise, but sure as heck a safer method.

As for shoes, Bruno Magli frequents many an outlet store, often purchasable for a rock bottom $120 - $160. That is more a proper price for these shoes. As for Allen Edmonds, your BF has to try them on even if you know his shoe size. Allen Edmonds may not fit exactly as your BF likes and he could need to size up/down.
