i have a bottega cardholder really well made , i picked it up at a saks off 5th for like 30 dollars have it a year and half and i abuse it , its still holding up well

I have an LV wallet and it is well built and lasted about 5 years. It is the Nomad or whatever they call it. I like it...

Im a big fan of Smythson wallets/leather goods. Really great stuff, and a nice selection of hides, too.

Yes, they make men's. I've seen them available at Barney's and sometimes on Blue Fly. Never been a fan of the woven pattern but have also heard only the best about quality. Prices are closer to LV or Valextra than Hermes.

I am also curious about the durability of these wallets. Does anyone else have experience with Smythson? How do they fare?

Additionally, what about the Prada Saffiano wallet? The leather looks fairly durable.

Meh, their stuff isn't constructed particularly well (glued pieces, etc.) but you're right, the saffiano leather itself is pretty durable. If price isn't an issue I'd check out Valextra (similar style, about $90 more) or perhaps Launer (should be a little less but from what I hear, excellent quality leather and workmanship.

thanks. i always thought the weave was too old fashioned but it's growing on me. if i get one it would have to be a crazy color, not black or dark brown.

Thanks, that's helpful-- I want to avoid the glued pieces. Valextra is a good suggestion (I have looked) but I'm not particularly fond of the stitchwork. It doesn't look as clean to me.

Any thoughts on Smythson?

No experience there, but I think they are well liked here. What is it about the Valextra stitching you find objectionable? I agree that on those pieces using contrasting colors that it is a bit much. In fact that's exactly why I bought my card case in navy instead of tan; the navy used dark blue thread while the tan used light green which stood out in the wrong way, particularly since the fusing on the sides was in black (though I don't know if folding wallets require such fusing).

Ended up getting the Hermes.

Point of interest, custom is possible but needs to be approved by Paris which takes 1-2 weeks. The main downside once approved is that the piece takes a little while to make: >6 months and as much as 2 years in some cases. Best thing appears to be to get something in stock if at all possible.
