How to shrink sweater collar

Dear All: It's me again asking silly questions on this board. I bought a Brioni navy cashmere sweater on ebay which fits me perfectly except that the collar is too large (possibly, I suspect, due to hanging on a hanger by the previous owner). Is there anyway I could shrink just the collar part of the sweater? The owner has offered a refund but if I could shrink the collar successfully I would very much like to keep it. Thanks.

I would try steaming it. That will often snap stretched out cuffs back into shape and it won't hurt it to try.

I do this with some of my own cashmere sweaters from time to time (when the collar gets stretched). 1) Run hot water. 2) Soak the collar or cuff area ONLY in hot water. 3) Scrunch the area up you intend to shrink, compressing the fabric. 4) Allow to dry. 5) (Optional) Steam out any wrinkles. Works like a charm for me. My Mom suggested it.

It worked. It worked. Thanks, j and montecristo#4. I am so glad I don't have to return the Brioni Roma navy crewneck cashmere sweater. I bought it for $26 + $12 shipping from Italy, and it is absolutely wonderful.
