I was reassured by the rep that it would fit me. After all, I have a few Gitman shirts myself so I didn't think that would be a problem.

As a matter of fact, since I have a rather long torso, I asked him the same question along with another buyer. He said it would be fine.

As a very longtime Gitman Clothier---I felt I had several reasons to respond to this conversation. This was not my customer above but always feel that my Clothier Brethren need more understanding in this world---so I am giving my 2 cents.

First of all----Gitman mades an excellent MADE IN THE USA garment. You can wear one of their shirts with confidence of its quality and good taste.

Gitman "Custom" Shirts are actually called "CUSTOMIZED" shirts. For the price that you paid---- they are giving you the option of creating a shirt for you (which they do ONE AT A TIME---not mass produced) of
Your Collar Style Choice and Size
Your cuff style Choice and size
A monogram
You have many options for the above but they are all on the basic Gitman body.

Hard to find sizes, colors, French Cuff, etc. all make this a wonderful option---this is why people choose this product. If you are an "off the rack" guy with an easy fit or a Sale Shopper, you may not be interested in Gitman Customized.

YES---Gitman makes thousands of shirts a year.................but dozens and dozens of the exact same color, etc. at the same time. YOUR Customized Shirt is handled one at a time. If you are impatient and start counting the days once a Special Order is placed---this also simply may not be for you. Good things take time.

And finally
with ANY Custom or Special Order
please note ! Timing is always just an estimate. If you are ordering within the busy 4th quarter of the year, it is easy for delays to happen. Not only with the production of the garment but with piecegoods, buttons, etc. The gentleman above who was distressed to receive his package Jan 12th---keep in mind that many packages do go astray during the hectic shipping season from Thanksgiving till New Years. There are quieter times of the year with prompter delivery.
I know that we do say to allow 4+ weeks for delivery. Its been shorter.....its been longer. In this economy, many factors have gone into delivery issues. If a longtime button supplier suddenly closes their doors, for instance, shirts cannot be finished......or elastic and then Boxer Shorts cannot be finished. There have been MANY cases of supply issues of the different findings the last couple of years.
Going forward the concerns of the price of cotton, gasoline all are pressing issues. We expect price increases in the future to maintain the same quality of product.

Are there occasional mistakes with Custom Shirts ? Yes....but they are not common.
PLEASE ---go back to your Retailer and discuss it with him. The likihood is that Gitman will want to inspect the shirts and make a determination of the problem.

I think Gitman has not been recognized here for the outstanding manufacturer that they are !

Dennis

PS I have been doing business with Gitman Shirts since they day they opened. 1978. Prior to that....the product was produced for Bert Pulitzer from 1966 or so......and I was onboard then too.
