Is this suit too big on me?

Hi

I bought this suit and had the trousers altered for free as part of the service. However I'm unsure about the size of the jacket, seems like it might be a bit too big. What do you think?

Thanks for any opinions.

IMO yes, I would consider it to be too big, especially in the back.

you need a smaller size jacket.

Smaller size jacket and less baggy pants - and btw altering the length of the pants should be free anywhere you buy a suit.

Yes, I did have the pants altered in length - although it seems not enough even though the salesperson was quite insistent on the length being okay.

For the love of god, do not button the bottom button.

It looks a bit large from the pictures. How does the fit feel?

I really don't know as I'm not used to wearing a suit, but think it does feel a bit big. There seems too much room between my shirt and the front of the suit.

Go down a size in jacket. The pants need to be slimmed. If this "tailor" said the length was ok then he was only looking at where it hits on your shoe. These pics show a lot of break and too much fullness all the way down.

The suit looks large. Even the 3 day suit broker will taper the jacket and pants for $100

my tailor insists o havig my trousers at that length and i keep telling him to make them shorter. with length i thin it comes down to personal choice. i wouldnt say your were too long perse but they are too long for how i like to wear them.

The jacket is too short. I understand the camera angle is a bit low, and is making it look worse than it is, but it's still too short. The rear barely (if!) covers your tuckus and the front barely makes it to the bottom of your zipper. And, maybe it's just me, but from the side - the opening of the vent looks, well, not long enough. Like it's a mini-vent or something. It's almost like a "short" vent on a regular sized jacket. Again, maybe that's just the angle...

I'm a fan of a full leg trouser, but yours look too big for you. You need some taper. And yes, too much break (even for me).

This isn't fit related, but it plays into it: The shirt and tie make me think you want it as a conservative business suit, why did you get the narrow lapels? They are part of what is making the jacket look too large in the chest - which it is, but it looks even worse with those. If you're going to go skinny lapels you need the suit to be slim too. Plus, don't discount that you need to be slim and trim as well (a toothpick pulls it off well). And, while we're at it, if it is intended as a conservative suit, the hacking pockets look a little out of place. Even more-so that the jacket looks to fit like a sack.

Lastly - is it a 3 piece? I think I see a vest poking up. Depending on it's fit, it may be throwing the fit of the jacket as well.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but at least you got the gray right smile.gif

ps - you didn't ask but I'll toss it out there anyway: your tie knot is too firiggin' big, it looks like a softball under your neck. The good news is you have the right shirt collar to do it, but you need to tighten it up a bit (or get a slightly less thick tie). It is a nice tie, though.

Overall, yes the suit is too big.

IMO, the overly baggy pants make everything look worse than it actually is.

Shoulders - maybe a touch big, hard to tell though
Chest / waist - same
Sleeves - go a little shorter, try to explose 1/4 - 1/2" of cuff
Length - acceptable imo, but definitely on the short side. I'd try for at least 1/2" longer.
Pants - ridiculously baggy. about 1" too long.

Go for a suit one or two sizes smaller - thats for sure.

Length wise I think you are OK, it is not classical style to wear short jackets, but current style is short jackets. Your choice. Classic never goes out of style though. If you want classic style, jacket needs to be a whole inch longer.

Looks like a Men's Wearhouse suit. Also looks like you have a bit of a gut. Like you could probably lose fifteen pounds.

If these facts are true, the suit if fine. It is what it is. Going smaller will not help. I think you have the right size here.

Note the vent is already opening (third picture). You can't go a size down in that jacket -- you would not be able to button it without your ass sticking out the vent.

Razl has a point about the length but all the jackets are a little shorter these days. Plus I'll bet you are not hiking your pants up as high as you probably should (in a suit). That makes it even harder for the jacket to cover your butt. No big deal -- 90% of all American men under 40 wear their higher-rise suit pants on their hips, like they are jeans. Sometimes looking good in a suit means looking like an average guy. Maybe you are going to court and want to look innocent.

The suit is fine - you can't do better with that generic cut and what appears to be your average physical condition.
