Shirt Care?

Hello, been lurking for a few months. I was wondering if anyone could help instruct me on proper shirt care to preclude this from happening to all my shirts. I find that a picture is worth more than a thousand words and could explain to you guys my problem better than I ever could with words.

Why do I have an express shirt? It's cheap and I like the plainness (french placket, no pleats, no pocket). I am aware it is of poor quality.

Well the poor quality is the reason for this happening; either the interfacing or the stitching is shrinking in the wash more than the shirt fabric (or vice-versa), causing this puckering.

Do you put your shirts in the dryer at all? If so, then you should stop doing that, and it might stop this happening as much. If not then the only solution is to buy better shirts.

If you have a good steam iron you can apply a lot of steam and then pull the seam and press. That might help a bit but it won't solve the bigger problem, which is the quality of the shirt.

I second that. That is why it is better to invest in quality shirts (not exactly expensive) since you will wear them frequently the most.

Ok well it's comforting to know that I am not doing anything particularly wrong. Where can I find better shirts (while affordable shirts) that have similar styling? (no pocket, no pleats, french placket, no button-down collars everything else is fair game).

 

A little more about me

I'm a small guy. 5'6", 120 lbs, young, fit (former midshipman/officer cadet)

Search the forum for MTM shirt threads. There are plenty of companies out there...modern tailor, cottonwork, proper cloth, biased cut, mytailor, alexander west, cego, janzen.. brooks bros and better department stores (Von Maur / Nordstrom and higher) may have a MTM service too. A wide range of prices in that group.
