RLBL Suits: Is the long just a regular with an inch added to the bottom?

When I buy RLBL suits I've become indifferent to a regular vs. a long since they run fairly short, there's little difference in length between them and I'm about 6'1. Recently I compared two of mine and it appears that all proportions are the same but the L just has about an inch of extra material on the bottom. Anyone actually taken detailed measurements on one of theirs?

And while we're on the subject, do most of you that are about 6'1 typically buy a regular or long in these, and how do you decide? I've started thinking the R is a bit short given what most are showing these days but the R comes to the base of my thumb with arms down and the L to the first knuckle (talking about the body of the suit, not the sleeves, lol).

hmm I don't have experience with RLBL suits but I am 6'1 and typically always buy 38R. I havn't even seen a long where I live, the R seems to fit perfect on me though. I would imagine that if you bought a R you could always let it out an inch or 2.

Which brands are you buying? For some I can only buy a regular, as a long is comically long. Zegna's Roma cut is a good example, while their Milano is perfect for me in a long. I've also found that I like my suit's about an inch longer and slightly less fitted than my casual blazers worn with jeans.

I've just been buying more cheaper suits, "Moores for men a clothing store in Canada", Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, and Brooks Brothers. I've been told if you find a brand of suit that fits you perfectly just stick with that, and go for different colours/fabric. Unless you go Bespoke then thats a different story..

Now I see why you tend to stick with a regular; in my experience those tend to run longer (particular BB) and I can't imagine buying anything but regular in any of those (and would probably be sizing down to a 38 as well).

I think you may be right because when I try on a R vs an L, the regular just seems less balanced on the bottom, as if a little were chopped off.

Yes. It's always a bit disconcerting, too, when I try on a new suit of theirs. I never bother trying the pants until it's time to tailor it (I just try jackets for the general look) and since I'm wearing jeans I always think "gee, the long looks a bit long" but then when I put on the whole suit the regular looks a bit short (by today's standard, not what was showing a couple of years ago when I started buying RLBL).

At the end of the day, though, at sub-$700 (which all but one of my RLBL were) I'm still indifferent. My latest L purchase seems to have longer vents than previous R or L suits of theirs which I think is what is causing a bit of puckering right near the top of the vent, where my rear ends and lower back begins. I suppose it wouldn't be much trouble to have a tailor close an inch of the vent but not sure about this.

Were I having these made I'd make a few minor alterations (jacket more suited to someone with natural lower back arch, trouser rise a tad higher to better accommodate braces) but the fact that these fit OTR better than 99% of men's suits fit them and all I have to do to them is hem the trousers (immediately), add brace buttons (immediately or maybe later) and add working buttonholes (eventually) I think I have a winner.
