+ 1, Yes, Im thinking late 80's early 90's. Way back in the days where likes of YSL and Dior could be picked up in Dillards and stores of that ilk. How times have changed.

Yes - those are the licensed days though. If its made in France, might be a little better quality.

Thanks for your input guys!

What do you think about buying this coat and having it tailored for a closer fit? I've never acquired a vintage coat, so I have no idea what i'm doing. Also I've never owned a coat for more than 10 years, so I don't know how the garment would age. Just know that the measurements are close to my size, pictures look OK, and its cheap.

Does not seem so cheap to me. I think you can do better/newer/nicer for that price.

It would be cheap if it was a more recent YSL piece I guess. I have no idea about older clothing. I'm really willing to pay much more online for a close-fitting DB coat (like this one http://www.mrporter.com/product/176066 but I'd only buy it on sale), but couldn't find one anywhere in my size (~US36).

This OP is probably moved on by now, but in case others search or have YSL questions in the future, I'll add my two cents:

+1 to spoo's comment. It's tough to make any general comments about pre-2001 YSL, though, because even when he had 14,000 licenses on everything from hand towels to teacups, YSL still maintained a couture house and a very nice made in France/Italy line (Rive Gauche.) There was also still a decent rtw line made in france and not labeled "rive gauche."

Nevertheless, the one posted in the OP appears an older licensed product (not made in France), but again it's hard to tell without seeing it in person. With vintage YSL, unless one is an expert in the brand, avoid or beware because chances are it's not worth it.
