has anyone bought a pear of loafers from harrys of london? some of the loafters look nice as a casual swede shoe but pretty punchy prices and a new company which hasnt been around a long time.

shoes rrp at £300 + so competing with the likes of tods .. is quality high and the prices worth it?

Hi dandy1,

I have quite a few pairs from Harrys. The suede loafers (Basel in particular) are my favourite shoes I own. I also have 2 pairs of the Downing (my work shoes that I live in) and a lace-up rubber sole Cosby. They use a special suede called Kudu suede. Think it's from an antelope of some sort. Really soft and luxurious on the feet. Much better quality and comfort than my Todds, Churchs and shoes from other brands. You can tell the high quality of the leathers and suedes and that everything is well made. Also they always help me out online with sizing and fits etc. Def my go to shoe brand. Highly recommend them.

Hi shoebie, yes its an interesting new kid on the block .. the basel were the ones that i was looking at.

My only concern is that the sole on the basel is completely flat .. no heel at all. Do you find this more or less comfortable when walking around?

Hi dandy1,

There is a slight gradient towards the back of the shoes. So although there isn't a heel 'wedge' as such, there is a raise. Apparently (which I can understand) the stance when in them is more natural and helps to stop too much pressure on your heels. For someone like me who gets pain in my heels when wearing heeled shoes for often, they are a great respite. The technogel innersole in the shoes is great too. Adds an extra cushioning feel to the soles. All in all they are the most comfortable shoes I own. Plus I think they look great...not like some of the 'comfort' brand shoes out there. If you can't try a pair on in a store  - the online store has a 30 day returns policy if they didn't work out for you...

Hey Shoebie, appreicate the info. Definately an interesting shoe.

How much height does the raised heel portion add up to on the Basel?

Hi dandy,

Hmm, hard to say but probably about 1 inch rise from the front of the shoe to the heel...

1 inch? thats about 2.5 cm.. that seems like a lot?

Maybe not 2 inches but at least 1.5 gradient raise. If you need a heel it's probably not the shoe for you, but you may be surprised by how they feel on!
