I'm sure this question is a bit trivial, but banking interviews on Monday and Tuesday so I'm pretty amped up:

What tie knot is standard?

Four in hand is the first tie knot one learns, and many do not go beyond that. Go with that knot, you cant fail.

I caught your other thread and you noted you are a junior in college / just starting out in the business world. Please set yourself apart from every 21-24 year old who decides they want to start dressing nicer and discovers the Windsor Knot. Learn how to tie a nice four-in-hand that isn't too small and has a good dimple and look great all the time. On occasion if I have a spread/cut-away collar, I will do a half-windsor, but I always make sure the knot is tight and relatively small. I think its just good for the symmetry in that situation.

Also, don't over think the "what do BANKERS" wear. Dress nice and wear what you like, who gives a shit. You'll also notice, once you spend enough time here, that the vasty majority of the workforce dresses pretty poorly. If you can afford a pair of Edward Greens or Lobbs (not assuming you can at your age, but just making a point), wear them with pride!

windsors, 4ih, whatever.

A windsor that is not sportscaster huge is perfectly acceptable.

This is probably correct; don't overthink the sartorial aspect of the interview. They won't either.

Worst advice ever. As someone who is working in finance: office politics is HUGE. senior bankers care very much about what you're wearing. if you're interviewing with associates and other junior bankers they won't care or notice, but senior bankers do.

No cufflinks, no cutaway collars, no fat ari-gold tie knots.
Shine your shoes. light shirt, dark tie, dark suit.

that being said: your clothes won't land you the internship (i'm assuming because of the timeframe) but they can sure as hell keep you from it.

The average managing director could give a fuck what your wearing (so long as its not ridiculous) so long as you're willing to work 100+ hour weeks, and this I know for a fact.

There's a difference between what you can do once you're hired and how you should present yourself while looking to get hired. Once you've landed the job, they don't really give a fuck as long as you're doing your work. I have seen an analyst get shit for wearing a monogrammed shirt, I've heard MDs talk about this one analyst that keeps his jacket on during work, I've seen a VP bust his favorite associate's balls for wearing cufflinks... they might not care, but they notice these things.

In the hiring process? This is an extreme situation, but I've seen the deciding factor between two well qualified candidates for the last position come down to the fact that one of them wore striped socks.
