Dinner Jacket gone the way of the Dodo in California? - Page 2

I believe they've moved to Las Vegas.

I would love to be able to "commission" a DJ rig from my friends in Kowloon, but the occasion to wear one just never comes up for me. I don't attend civic banquets, openings of the symphony or opera...what else is left for me? I really only wear a suit (except for my casual suits) rarely, and then I am overdressed much of the time.

I suppose we and Andy could sweet talk our spouses into taking a cruise where dressing for dinner is expected.  Or perhaps a trip on the Orient Express from Paris to Istanbul?

After a New Year's Eve in black tie, my friends and I shot sporting clays and skeet the morning of New Year's Day. The gals and kids went riding.

I think that you would like such a weekend.

I would guess so!  Just let me get a case of 2 1/2" 12ga shells for my latest acquisition and I'll be ready to go.

Of course it's scripted. Every "reality" show on television is scripted.

I've lived in SoCal since '97 and one of the very few things that I like about my job is that during the holidays I have the opportunity to attend 2-3 fundraising events at the company's exense. To these I wear a tuxedo with a white pique' vest, detachable wing collar shirt, white pique' tie, pumps, etc. This is also what I wear on the first night of my annual cruise vacation. On the second formal night, I wear a white DJ with an attached turn down collar shirt and a cummerbund. During these events I am in a tropical area during the winter.

To the OP's point, when I attend the fundraisers, I'd put the ratio of tuxedos to suits at about 60:40 formal wear on a good night. I attended The Nutcracker at the Disney Hall a few Christmases ago, and there was one other guy in a tux. I don't think the DJ is Dodo-esque yet, but it's mortally endangered.

Meanwhile, I battle on, like Quixote. Strollers to weddings, braces daily with my suits when business casual would be more than sufficient, bow ties, and contrasting collars and cuffs.

FTW.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that the last Californian to dress as do you was Don Diego de la Vega.

I would indeed, except I'll have to confess I am a lousy shot with a shotgun!

What did Biden do this time? Usually he just shoots off his mouth.

I know, but somehow you expect it more from him than from ol' Dick.
