Allen Edmonds Help!

Thread Starter
Hello!

I have a $60 Allen Edmonds gift card to spend and need some advice. I have always taken my shoes to the local shop to be cleaned up but I have recently moved out of the country and do not speak the language or trust the shops here.

What products are a MUST? What is the proper way to care for and shine/wax shoes?

I already have cedar trees for all my shoes, are shoe creams, polish, and wax all needed?

I have the AE Mora Black, AE Holt Brandy, AE Sanford Black, AE Vintage Monk Strap Wingtips Cognac

Thanks in advance!

If I were you I would pick up polish and wax (I like to alternate every so often. Some claim wax can give you a better shine/wetness protection, but can also dry out your shoe) in Black, Cognac, and Brandy (if AE sells those. If not try to match them or buy neutral). Dont forget a good horsehair brush (one for black and one for browns/neutral). Lastly a bottle of leather conditioner to use prior to polishing every couple of shines to keep your leather supple and in good condition. If you have any credit left over, maybe throw in some buffing rags or edge dressing for good measure!

Here is what I would get:

Horsehair brush (x 2) = $14

Leather lotion: $9

Edge dressing (black and either brown or natural depending on your edge colors): $11

Wax polish (black): $4.50

Premium polish (brandy and cognac): $18

Total: $45.50

You could add some rags if you want. Or get neutral wax or black premium polish. Neutral wax won't give you as good of a shine I find (and the AE manager I go to recommends using colored). If you use the brown wax on the cognac or brandy shoes, they will darken over time. There are a few other threads that have recommendations for non-AE polish.

I use wax based only and I have about 12 pairs of Allen Edmonds. I generally polish every couple wears and then use the leather lotion every couple of polishings.

+1

Conditioner, polish, cream. All needed, in proper rotation of conditioner + polish, conditioner + cream. Polish makes shoes look better, cream feeds shoe nutrients and keeps it healthy. AE carries all of those colors, and supplies how-to videos. Enjoy your shoes.
