Paul Stuart Suit

I've been looking for a good new staple suit for interviews (about to finish grad school) for a while, and really like the look and fit of the Paul Stuart suits I’ve seen. I’m really looking to get something on sale around $1000 in a nice slim cut 38 Short, and am looking to get something with better quality for the money than Brooks Brothers. Do you guy’s think the pinstripe pattern on this suit is too bold for a staple suit to use for interviews and such?

Also, does anyone know what the in store (Paul Stuart NYC) sale selection around my price point is like, and if it’s any different than what’s available online? I'm about 90 minutes from the city and don't want to make the trip for nothing.

(1) That suit is not too bold.

(2) I will be in the NYC store on Saturday, if you pm me saturday night, i will let you know what selection looked like.

My experience with Paul Stuart is that the online offering very closely mirrors the store offering. In fact, the store will have more items.

I wouldnt wear any pinstripe to an interview.

That said, I own the same pattern, different maker, and I LOVE the look! But I am also a pinstripe whore, 70% of my suits are pinstriped...

That's a relatively tame pinstripe, shouldn't be a problem.

To answer your question directly, as a person who has conducted his fair share of interviews, that pattern is not inappropriate for such purposes.

My question to you is: why not get a samuelsohn MTM? Same maker and you'll have more control over your fabric/color/fit options.

Just a thought.

I do hope you already have some solids before pulling the trigger on a pinstripe. But other than that the pattern is okay for an interview.

This is very good advice. It's within your price range too.

that pinstripe looks fairly respectable and shouldn't be an issue but take the advice of some here that first invest on solid suits/shirts then explore the patterns

Looks good to me, though I only have a solid one from them, they're having a sale online.

Robstrongo, how did your experience with PS go (either online or instore)? I'm also looking for a high quality, slim fit 38S suit, and I'm tempted to buy a PS brown herringbone that's currently on sale for half-price on the website. But I'll also be in NYC next week (I live upstate), and so I'm wondering if it would be better just to go in person.

Does anyone know how long the PS winter sale lasts?

I would certainly just go in person. It is one of the best stores in the city (country?) and a real pleasure to shop in. If you think you want that suit (and are sure you want something), and plan to stop in, just call and ask them to hold it. that will give you a chance to try on a bunch of stuff before making your decision.

I stopped by earlier this week and for some reason just didn't like the way the suit that I had linked looked on me, and couldn't find anything else in my price range that wouldn't require significant alterations that would end up costing me too much. I ended up just buying a Belvest suit I found online which was also an epic fitting fail.
The store however is awesome and I really recommended checking it out. I ended up picking up a couple of awesome ties.

Paul Stuart seems to cut very short. I know Phineas Cole is VERY short. I believe their 40 "Tall" is only 30-30.5 BOC.

I'd buy a solid navy and/or charcoal gray (at least that's what I bought my son as a pre-graduation present for his job searches - he graduates from IU in May.). I also bought him two pair of Allen Edmonds shoes - Kenilworth - you can even wear them with jeans, a couple of white shirts and polka-dot ties. The rest is up to him.

Paul Stuart is great, but I buy most of my stuff at Brooks (or online at Sierra Trading Post)
