Rick Santorum Doesn't Look Presidential

Talking about Rick Santorum is peepwall[1].gif but this should be said somewhere - he doesn't look presidential.

Above the neck, he looks a combination of boyish and dentist. He wears clothing that is blandly appropriate for political office, but not prestigious enough for high-ranking position. On the plus side, he is tall. Santorum probably exemplifies that a forgettable appearance can be better than a controversial appearance, e.g., corporate Mitt Romney and strange Rick Perry. Of the competition, Newt Gingrich probably looks the most presidential.

hey, how do you get the ending 't' in your SN to appear on the second line? I always think that it's a custom title - not that I burn with envy at seeing custom titles, which I don't at least as far as you know, well, I hide it really well that's all, but I digress. Goddammit, when I am going to get a custom title? it doesn't have to be anything fancy, it could even be just like yours - 't' - I mean, there is a small subgroup of my family who refer to me by my first initial - how's THAT for baller status - known by a letter - take THAT Madonna. yeah. Although if it means that my name gets changed to Thoma and s is my custom title, I don't know how I'd feel about that. I mean, I'd get what I most desperately want, but then I'd be Thoma. Very sad-inducing. Hm, i wonder if I got decaf this afternoon normally I don't drink coffee after eleven a.m. but the dogs woke my up early and often and I'm flying solo with the kids this evening which I am NOT looking forward to but I did it before and if worst comes to worst then it's pizza and Straight to Bed with you kids while I unwind with, well hm, I forgot what I do to unwind. any ideas?

Well, not that one tounge.gif Commentary suggests it's not from Seersucker Day. With a different tie, not terrible, though.

Apologies to Jon Huntsman, for forgetting him (as many seem to do) - he possibly looks the most presidential.

Didn't we pick "the most presendential looking/sounding" candidate last time?

Is this a joke?

The point is, candidates who don't look presidential are quite unlikely to win.

Uhm, no - but note that I was being gracious with the "we". I didn't personally pull the lever for him, but I subscribe to the "we're all Americans and we're in this together" stupidity. I would have rather have said "They". ... whoops.

Only because we stupidly pick the ones who "do", regardless of capabilities or experience; see prev msg.

Oh, you're an imageconsultant. I get it.

His facial expression is highly nervous as well. How do you know he's tall? Seems like all you need to be 'presidential' nowadays is to just be normal- Romney isn't particularly authoritative or attractive, but he's the only normal looking one in a pack of severely unattractive weirdos.

Rick Santorum's height is listed online, as 6'4. It probably is an estimate. Neverthless, if he were short, it would be obvious. Serious candidates for high political office usually are tall. That tall candidates and physically attractive candidate generally get more votes is well documentated by research. That is not to say it should be that way.

Tall candidates look stronger and more imposing and therefore have a psychological advantage for negotiatons and impressing voters. It follows that tall people are preferable to short people at each stage of the election. But Rick Santorum also comes across as someone running for student politics elections.

No way he could be that tall, he's clearly shorter than Romney, who's only 6'2''. Romney's an inch taller than Obama.

Well, that's true but only if you're tall AND handsome... there's plenty of tall people that are goofballs and are actually taken less serious because of their height. And larger size is not always an advantage- I know several ex-football/rugby players in the legal field that complain about being given the ogre treatment- everyone assumes they must be unintelligent.

Hmm, going by recollection, research doesn't seem to quantify the combination of tall and good-looking (edit) for politicians. Clearly it's better, but there probably is an advantage for tall and only slightly above average in attractiveness. By the way, male thinness works against that. The point about "larger size" being a disadvantage to some perhaps is more weight-related than muscle-related, but also extreme height (Santorum perhaps) can be a negative.
