I read the leaked script treatment. The ending does connect with the original movie
I thought that was confirmed as a hoax, no?
I watched a bit of the original Alien again last night (for about the 50th time or so). I got to wondering about the symbolism of the ship's name. Wikipedia confirmed for me that the ship is named for the Joseph Conrad novel, which I have not read. The ship in Aliens is also named from the novel, for the port city Sulaco. Anybody have any thoughts about this?
I've also wondered about the Egyptian imagery in the Nostromo's logo, did Scott have some deeper meaning in mind for it?
Read this quote in a David Milch/Micheal Mann interview:
"With Nostromo, Joseph Conrad said that he had wanted to write a novel about the degradation of an idea."
???
Any lit majors reading this thread?
Not a lit major by any stretch, but I always assumed that the ship was named Nostromo because, in the book (huge spoilers):
Nostromo is entrusted by a group of wealthy people with something extremely valuable and important. However, it is this item that eventually leads to him getting killed in something of an accident.
This hypothesis as to the rationale for the name is supported by the revelation that the company knew at least something about what the ship was sent to retrieve, and that it was highly valuable to them.
potential spoilers, seems legit. somebody spent a lot of time geeking out to this
