Ugh, I kept thinking it was June FIRST for the US, not the 8th. frown.gif

While I don't always trust critics as most of them are fat movie snobs who get off on trying to look down on everyone, some initial reviews for this movie are that it's just "OK."

Just got back from seeing it, nice little line and a full house for the last showing at the cinema down the street from me here in Paris. As a whole I was big time into it! icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif I do have a few minor little quips about it, walked back from the cinema and been thinking about it none stop of course (meant positively) and cleared a couple of questions, but there are quite a few lingering as well; but I read somewhere that this might be one of two prequels, is that still correct?

Anyways, I have a lot of thoughts if people want me to share, but I understand if people want me to keep quiet till after the 8th... That said, def check it out on the bigger screen! Beautiful looking film that offers a whole lot more than just the pretty (and not so pretty...) images!

Yes please keep spoilers hidden until it is released in the US. smile.gif

No worries, wouldn't be spoilers as I hate when people do that... More just general thoughts/observations..

I'm looking forward to an explosion of discussion about it on the 9th in this thread.smile.gif

I can't believe this video clip leaked. Huge spoilers here that I wish I had avoided. Watch at your own risk.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
You do not want to see this clip. Trust me. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

God me too! I just live over here in Europe, most of my friends and family are back in the US and thus haven't seen it... so I can't talk very much but I have so much I want to debate!

I've read some reviews and it seems that they have similar sentiments to mine from the little 1:30 clip that was posted. I hope they are wrong. God damnit, I'm still going to watch this movie.

I went to see Prometheus late last night on the first day of opening, being a huge Alien and Aliens fan - especially the first film which I think is superb.

As a background I stopped watching trailers ages ago as I don't like being spoilered so went in knowing very little at all about the film, which is the best way with something like this I think smile.gif

My brief review then:

Prometheus was very good, but it was really flawed. Mostly by some really bad dialogue throughout, and some very lame characters whose behaviour was far too stupid for a film like this. I found myself having to forgive those kind of things for the first 40 minutes or so and I know many of my film friends would have gotten pretty pissed at it.

However if you leave that behind it is at times astounding in how it looks and a few of the ideas. The plot is predictable in the sci fi universe, but amongst all of that there are some brilliant parts and concepts. I am still reflecting back on the film and there are some great ideas and lots to think about in it. I definitely want to see it again and imax would be amazing as the effects and scenes are grandiose and beautiful. I’d give it 7.5 out of 10 overall. It is a real pity as if they’d ditched the crap dialogue and often very silly actions it would have been utterly fantastic.

In a week or two though it will be great to discuss the concepts in the film on here (with of course Spoiler boxes on) because there are some great things in this film.

Keeping this still very, very general, (no spoilers) but I'll put it in the little box just because it is nice to know as little as possible:

Yeah, I can def see/agree with this. There were a few moments where I almost said out loud, "now why would they do that? That's just dumb!" That being said, I thought a few other characters were very good/interesting/likable/sympathetic/etc. depending on who we're talking about, but most were at least developed and dynamic. Also, since you mentioned the first 40 mins, I still thought the first two acts were stronger than the third tough even with this caveat.

This movie was so bad it almost gave Cosmopolis a run for its money. Yuck! The only nice part was when Laurel and Hardy get killed by giant dicks/worms.
