So, what's the deal here?

I've been doing the eBay and B&S looking around, and I see NWT top-of-the-line Corneliani suits selling for $500-$600. What's up with that? How is it possible a $3-$5,000 suit to sell for the price of RL Green Label?!?

Am I missing something here? Help!

It's a 3K or whatever suit if it's bought in a store and is the current stock. A range of sizes. A range of colours.

What you're asking is why is it you can buy day old bread for less then fresh baked.

I dont know where you live, but here a day old bread is the same price as fresh-baked
:-)

What I dont understand is how the eBay/SF seller can make profit selling a $3K suit for $600? That means that Corneliani must have sold the suit for more than 80% off. I just cant wrap my head around such a respected brand getting rid of a non-fashion suit so dirt cheap.

You're paying the same price for old bread?

Look at some point stock needs to be cleared. It's old. It may have been a bad design choice. The shop may just need room for the new season. The stuff gets dumped. Some goes to outlets. Some goes to jobbers. The stuff that goes to jobbers is going to be discounted far more then 80%. Hell I've seen local outlets selling stuff for 95% off the full retail price. It's cheaper then paying somebody to come get it.

The suit was only a 3K when it was being sold by the shop. Don't get tied up in MSRP or other things.

Corneliani doesn't sell for anywhere near $3 - 5k. Full retail is sub $2k

I can get some decent, and pretty recent (Matua, Leader) models for $600 + tax, so it doesnt surprise me that others can get it for even cheaper.

I get the discounts for seasonal collections.

But I have seen a few Corneliani "Corneliani" 150s suits (which is supposed to be their highest line) selling here and on eBay for $500-$600 NWT. And nothing trendy or seasonal either, just very nice pinstripe or solid navy SB suits.

The reason I'm trying to understand this is because I would love to buy a brand new, good brand, fully canvassed 150s suit for $500, but since I am not an expert - I don't want to get burnt, you know, the "too good to be true" thing...

If you're scared of being burnt, stick to B&S on SF. I have boughts suits, jackets and other stuff on SF and have never been burnt, and that includes buying a NWT HF suit for $250 and a pre-owned Oxxford cashmere jacket for about the same price.

I've seen sales go as low as 75% in stores, so its not out of the realm of possibility that a $2000 suit gets discounted to $500. Sometimes stores go out of business or want to stop carrying a line, and liquidate their stock.

When buying on ebay or SF, just make sure that the buyer is reputable. Use Paypal so you can contest if it turns out to be fraud.
