American Ballet Theater @ Met Opera - Anyone interested in create-your-own series?

Can anyone with experience recommend a good ballet or performance at the met?
Also, is it required to purchase a subscription in order to get tickets earlier? I have no experience or knowledge so any advice or help would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm not aware of any Ballet at the Met this season.

I saw the opera Faust a few weeks ago. It was enjoyable, if underwhelming. I'm going to see La Fille du Régiment this Friday if you want to meet up and get drunk beforehand (or afterhand).

You don't need to subscribe to buy tickets, unless you want really choice tickets. You can buy ahead of time on the internet, and many shows have open seats you can purchase at the door, especially in the winter months.

Cheers.

You should have gone the past two seasons, SF's very own Thoracozaag was playing Chopin for Lady of the Camellias.

The Bright Stream was the best production I've seen in a long time. I saw it twice last season. It is fun and comedic, unlike most classical ballet. If you want to see something more serious, Swan Lake and Giselle are old standbys. If you want to know about specific performances, I can discuss that too.

Looks like I came to the right gentlemen, I was thinking of getting tix to swan lake in June but single tickets don't go on sale till april unless you get a 4-show subscription which actually includes giselle. Do you think I could buy the subscription and flip the other 2 shows, they're the bright stream and onegin, or do you recommend going to them over swan lake and giselle

Consider seeing Swan Lake, Giselle and Bright Stream. I haven't seen Onegin. I usually buy the "make your own subscription "and I often swap my tickets. I often buy tickets depending more on who I want to see rather than the particular show itself. The cast list at the beginning often changes closer to the performance date.

I also like Le Corsaire for the display of the athleticism. I get tickets pretty much just to see the part that starts at 3:10 and especially the part that starts at 5:30. The rest of the show is kind of filler in comparison.

BTW, there is a Dance Thread in the Entertainment subforum. Perhaps Andre Yew has some suggestions too.

They say tickets go on sale in april unless I buy a subscription now, which section provides the best bang for the buck? Grand Tier? Dress Circle? Does any section have an awful view?

The closer your seat is to the center, the better the ensemble pieces. The closer you are, the better the solos and pas de deux. The side boxes can be good value if you take the first row seats, and never take the back seats. Even the first row of the side boxes have some obstructed view of the back, and more so the closer you are to the stage. I suspect the first row of the Dress Circle or Grand Tier would be great seats (if you can get them).

I want to know about the dancer Irina Dvorovenko in American Ballet Theater. I heard she is fabulous dancer, does anybody know about her dance?

Trying to buy tickets in advanced for Swan Lake at the met this summer, but it requires the purchase of 3 separate shows on 3 different dates. I am interested in Swan Lake on Sat. June 30th at 8PM, if 2 other people or 1 person looking for 2 different shows are willing to split the package and purchase tickets for a different date, we would be able to purchase them in advanced and get great seats. If anyone is interested, please PM. Thank you to poorsod for answering all of my questions, been a big help.
