Downton Abbey - Page 8

Episode 4 didn't come out on iTunes tonight so I guess we wait until the 29 when they release the rest of season 3.

I hope not. I really don't know where they go after Season 3.

Besides, everyone will stop watching once Dame Maggie Smith decides to leave.

Okay. They need to cut the ridiculous plotlines in half. I nominate The Man Without A Face Who Calls Himself Patrick being the first to go. Just totally ridiculous.

Yeah, season two veers way, way far into Soap Opera Land.

i don't remember a series that plummeted so fast. i loved season one; season two was just ridiculous. season three seems to be closer to one, but lots of "dramatic developments".

Just finished season 3. I'm done with it. I find myself hating all of the characters- I'll wait for season 4 to make it to Netflix and not spend another dime on it.

Just finished season 3 myself. I hadn't considered it before, but now that you mention it... I do hate all of the characters! rotflmao.gif Well, except Mr. Carson. He's a good guy.

I don't hate Carson, Hughes, Patmore and the like- but I got to the point that I was wishing for them all to die.  As usual these shows eventually devolve into soap opera status in their effort to keep the money coming in.  I think they would do much better by setting a pre-determined number of shows and get the story told without all of the gratuitous drawn-out rubbish.  That's why I bought Band Of Brothers on DVD, then again on BluRay.

Quality vs. quantity.

i think serial tv is really hard to do and takes a special kind of structure. i think downton might have been much better handled ala House of Cards (the original, haven't seen the remake), or band of brothers, where it ran in a single arc for a defined period. on the other hand, if i was julian fellowes and they backed a dump truck full of money at my door, i could be persuaded otherwise.

No doubt- I'd be writing all kinds of ludicrous bullshit!

there was an unintentionally funny interview with fellowes in the NYT yesterday where he revealed that he hadn't really intended for either of those characters to die, but was forced into it by the actors' demands to be released. I can just see that happening ... Lady Sybil ... aw god, what do i do? I know, difficult pregnancy ... then a couple of months later ... that sanctimonious *sshole Matthew Crawley? F*ck it. Car crash.
