Electric toothbrush recommendation

Thread Starter

Hello lads,

Greetings of the new year.

I am looking for a high quality, electric toothbrush (Sonicare, Oral-B) for my daily use. I do NOT mind spending a bit more for performance, but do not really care if the brush comes in a leather case or not.

I have good teeth, but brush my teeth rigorously, which needs to be calmed down a bit. So I want the brush to have good velocity.

Any suggestions please?

Thank you chaps,

Andrew

I have a Philips Sonicare FlexCare Plus with UV. I love it and my teeth are a lot cleaner. I normally have bad breath, this and mouthwash twice a day did the trick.

My cousin is a dentist, and the only study done that proved that electric was superior to manual was those that move in a circular motion. Which is one of Oral B or Sonicare but not both. So make of that what you will and the study is available on PubMed or whatever if you don't believe me.

I found the best way to keep my teeth clean was through diet and a few supplements, vitamin D3 and K2. Pretty much what is mentioned in this article is what I ended up doing. Stopped using the electric brush after that, and began using an easier on the teeth manual brush. My gums and teeth have never been healthier. My dentist was surprised at the change.

WHS is one of the best health blogs on the web. Thanks for that article; I had missed it.

I've had both and IMO Sonicare is better. I'm really happy with it - highly recommend.

SonicCare FTW. I recommend getting the Deluxe or whichever version has the cool sanitizer, because it's fun watching the thing clean your brushes with the glowing light.

Go with an Oral-B, the Sonicare has a very fragile shaft that breaks easily when dropped.

I've been using an Oral-B (circular sweep) brush for years now. I just changed to a Professional Care 1000 from the Vitality (base) model. What the OP will like about these brushes is that they have a sensor that lets you know if you're putting too much pressure on your teeth (Professional series and up). The brush does the work for you, so you don't end up scraping away the enamel.
One thing I noticed in changing models is the higher strength of the motor on the Professional series compared to the Vitality. Or maybe I just became accustomed to the weakening motor on the Vitality that I'd had for 4 years. It was still doing a good job so far as I could tell.

There really is no contest when it comes to comparing a power/rotating toothbrush to a manual one. You'll notice the biggest difference in the hard to reach places. No matter how hard you scrub using a manual brush it just can't reach those areas as well.

I have owned both the top of the line Oral B (from about 4 years ago), and the top Sonicare since about 2 years ago. IIRC, when I had the Oral B, Sonicare was the top rated, and currently I read somewhere that the new Oral B is best. foo.gif

They are essentially similar. Look for your preference based on features such as size, charger type, etc. I think sonicare has an anti-bacterial UV system which sounds good. I don't know if it works.
