I go down to Barney's and scam extra handle bags. They make great wastebaskets. I gave a couple to Ron Jeremy, he uses them as luggage.

I signed up to Styleforum to post on this thread because I discovered that a manufacturer in Cape Town South Africa manufactures for companies like Lanvin, Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford, Pierre Cardin etc and I was lucky enough to buy a few pieces from their off market retail store.

The best item I was lucky enough to find was a really great Super 220's Ralph Lauren Black label charcoal suit which was a perfect fit for R8,000.00 (just over US$1000.00).

There were Christian Dior shoes in Ostrich leather for R3,000.00, pure Cashmere Tom Ford sport coats for the same price.

I don't know if the tags are for real but the manager of the "factory shop" says the company is sub contracted to manufacture the items for the owners of the brand names and they export the whole lot. The "factory shop" sells the overstock items produced in excess to requirements or orders which are cancelled before delivery.

True or false? Who knows, but if the items are not genuine they are good enough fakes to compete very well and even better than the originals.

Amazing

That's $375 for a brand new pure cashmere Tom Ford coat -- doesn't sound legit to me. TF is one of the no-expense-spared brands, so I am having a hard time imagining them outsourcing production like that without a specific reason.

If you post good, clear photos of your 'RLBL' suit (including interior tags) the forum ought to be able to tell a fair amount about it.

I used to run an academic bookstore in the middle of what passes for skid row. Everyone loved our bags, you'd see them hanging off of shopping carts, great advertising.

Well, TF do outsource their production...to Zegna; not to some random factory in South Africa.

The part that doesn't sound right isn't the price it's that the third party factory is selling the overstock.
