If you thought counterfeit designer clothing and luxury goods were bad in China, guess again..

I genuinely can't wait for a Chinese equvalent version of Kiton

It's a paper bag. Why does... Where would... How come... Nevermind.

Is it that different from buying a fake anything else?

Yes, actually. Fake purses and clothes are understandable and at least serve a purpose (apart from being clothes, they can pet the ego by giving the wearer the idea that others believe them to be rich), but a paper shopping bag? I use those to take my recycles from the kitchen to the bin out front. Who would be trying to read the bag? Who would care? If you're out shopping and are carrying a fake (or even an authentic) Chanel bag that is even the least bit worn, everyone will know it wasn't just issued to you (in which case, it says you're either thrifty or cannot afford a proper bag). I don't get the point.

These whores suffer from low self-esteem apparantly.

God. Damn.

I feel like this is better than being a 'bandwhore', still.

It an Asian thing, I guess. I was surprised when I came to Japan that many women carry the paper shopping bags from any nice brand as an extra handbag for their things. It's a nice way to recycle and (like so much else) another way to show off status. I'm not surprised at all that someone is selling fake versions of these bags.

Fun fact: canvas tote bags from Dean & Deluca are very popular. Funny because it's just a deli (I think) and not a "luxury clothing brand."

These are great for impressing people as you cruise the mall in the morning. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

We here in the States are not immune to similar levels of ridiculousness.

While shopping for Christmas a few months back I saw a guy with a GIGANTIC Saks bag. The largest I had ever seen, no idea what you have to buy to get that large of a bag. Anyway, he was proudly touting that thing around the mall. I think I saw him 3-4 times in my hour-long trip. The only issue with this is that there isn't a Saks in the mall. This guy was doing laps with the biggest, most noticeable bag in history and it was from a shop that wasn't even in the mall. facepalm.gif

He probably sleeps in it.

It's completely understandable.

The average salary in China is what, $200/month? I can imagine that to them we are the actual brand whores, spending $1000 for a purse just because it carries a certain logo.

I could spend $1000 on a thousand purses -- all of them made in China.

Knowing China's disregard of IP laws and favorism towards counterfeiting, I doubt they can come up with an "original" Chinese version of Kiton besides faking their brand labels. Who knows, with their country full of high skilled faking, they might even make their counterfeit Kiton more Kiton than the real Kiton.

The difference between the Japanese and Chinese is that the later doesn't understand quality beyond the brand's name. They'll rather fake it on appearance, which really shows their insecurity on a global level. There are TONS of Japanese magazines devoted to certain brands and hobbies (ie. Leon's, Men's Ex., Begin, etc.). The amount of in-depth articles shows the insightful research done by the writers that put many Western fashion magazines to shame. It'll take time for Chinese consumers' sheep mentality to overcome their collective mindsets and branch out to become individuals.
