Critique fit on a few pairs of pants please

Thread Starter

I have a few pairs of pants and was hoping some members here could give me a few suggestions on fit, and what does/does not need to be done.  Thanks a lot guys.

I apologize in advanced for the terrible photos

Navy pants (I think these are a bit to baggy all around)

Tan pants (I think these also are too baggy all around)

and finally, a pair of grey pants which I think are almost perfect in terms of fit:

I don't find any of these overly baggy.

I don't find any of them overly baggy either .I like the way they fit. The only thing that I noticed is that the pleats on the chinos makes them look baggier than a flat front would. Also, wearing a belt would help to give better feedback as pants looks weird without belts, especially when your shirt is tucked in.

IMO, they definitely look baggy.

In deciding how slim you want 'em, consider what you'll wear them with. SF loves a slim trou at the moment, but you want a cohesive look. Skinny trou will look funny with a full-cut shirt. On the other hand, fuller trou can look good if you keep the other elements proportionate.

Those all look baggy, and clownish. The last one is probably the best of them all.

My suggestion: Lose the pleats, go flat-front.

I believe they look good on you - if anything, I'd go flat front, but I wouldn't get slimmer legs, you will look very skinny in them.

I am thin as it seems you are too, so the flat front is a preference of mine, as I feel it looks better in most cases. The pleats may be the reason the pants feel roomier and the flat fronts may be why you like the fit of the last pair.

Better picture of the grey flat front:

and a better picture of the pleat front pants:

I know flat front looks better on me then pleats do, however, I already had these two pairs of pleat front trousers and was hoping I could make them work by bringing them to a tailor, rather then buying two entirely new pairs.

Ditto, the pleats do you no favours I'm afraid.

Pleats are not your friends since you are taller and on the thin side. Just take the loss on the pleated pants, donate them to Goodwill, and go inside and look for some that fit you. From your fits I've seen, sticking with "modern" cuts are going to improve your look so much. But if you are more comfortable with the full fit, stick with the flat fronts at least.

The grey ones actually look good all around.

Everything's big. Shirt pocket looks like it could hold an iPad.

Agree. The pleats should go, quickly followed by the shirt. You need a shirt that fits - then worry about the trousers.
