It's that that guy is not just short, but that he also has short arms. I think that it must be a diet thing, because I've noticed that a lot of Japanese with shorter limbs, but their American or Canadian born children are much longer limbed. Maybe it has something to do with the lack of dairy during formative years? Certainly, this is the case for those of Chinese descent. I am 5'11" and 175 lbs, and that puts me as tall as the tallest of my uncles on either side, and considerably more athletic. My youngest brother is 6'1", and while he is overweight, at a healthy weight, he would still be well over 200 lbs. And we are a pretty tall family already, on my mother's side, especially. My guess is that the taller genes, compounded with a North American diet and exercise regimes that were not popular in previous generations, made our generation considerably bigger.
