Brown Shoe Decision

Thinking of getting a new brown dress shoe mainly for wearing with sport coats but occasionally with suits. Not in a huge hurry, but will probably buy something in the next month or so. Here are four choices I'm pondering. I'd be grateful for any advice/opinions.

EG Russell

EG Dover

Carmina Punched Captoe on Simpson Last
480

Carmina Captoe Robert Last (would be same brown as above and without brogueing on cap)
480

The color on the Carmina Simpson last is very rich and elegant - I think the best of the choices above.  I don't care for the Dover.

Spoo,

May I ask why the enthusiasm for those in particular? Given your voracious appetite for shoes, I assume you've owned both brands at least, and perhaps many or all of these individually, so I'm interested to hear your reasoning.

Carmina all the way.

The most appealing to my eye is the Carmina Punched Captoe on Simpson Last.

Either would be a great addition to one's collection. The Carmina, however, appeal more to my personal aesthetics. You cannot go wrong, no matter what you choose!

Agree about the Carmina - I like the Roberts. All are very nice except I really don't care for the Dovers much.

it also depends on what else you have in your closet already.

Having just received the carmina Robert Brown Captoe, it's a beautiful shoe- the picture on the armoury site doesn't do the toe shape justice. It's a much nicer round toe even than the armoury picture.

The Russel looks great, but fwiw I have never liked the "swan neck" stitching on EG oxfords. Dovers are beautiful, but, again fwiw, I don't think I would wear those w/ a suit, unless I had to. The Robert last from Carmina looks really nice in pics. I almost ordered one recently, but since I'm familiar w/ Alfred Sargent lasts, I ordered a pair of their Carroll loafers (w/o the tassels). They'll be my first pair of dark brown shoes. I would like to order a pair of captoes someday. I'm thinking loafers are best in warm weather and lace-ups in cool.

another vote for the robert.

I'd prefer a blucher if they're to be worn with both odd jackets and suits, but I'm not a big fan of the Dover. I prefer to wear oxfords with suits, only.

Get some PRL Darltons icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

I know most here do not like wearing bluchers with suits, but I love wearing mine with my navy suits.
