Wedding Suit - Page 2

Hugo Boss isn't as bad as people on here make it out to be. True, they're not amazing suits but they have great cuts and generally look pretty good. If you really like the way it fits and it's within you're budget, I'm all for getting it.

I have a charcoal Boss Black suit (made in Turkey, like that one) and I'm very happy with the quality.

I think mid-grey would be a good choice, as it'll fit well in this ceremony as well as give good service on other occasions. Since you've got plenty of time, you might want to check out some online options like the Benjamin suits from eHaberdasher.com or something from SuitSupply. Both places allow you to return something you don't like for a full refund. If you can get to a SuitSupply location, even better. I think that would be a good option for you - the price is right, the cuts are nice, the quality is very good given the price. For instance:

Here's a review of SuitSupply suits from respected menswear blog PutThisOn:

You'll soon learn that my sage advice is coveted here. Even if you aren't ready to buy it, someone else probably is, courtesy of my valued endorsement.

I am available for style consulting for a modest fee.

Black suit sounds good, but I think a flock coat with trouser or morning dress will be more appropriate for wedding
better tell us what is your budget.... what sort of things you like and afford?
This better not a poor student marriage

one of the worst/untrue things I've ever read....."This better not a poor student marriage" ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS??

OP, you might become more confused if you keep asking for advice on here. People will try to sway you into doing what they want, not what you want.

You seem to know what you want and the Boss suit obviously is the front-runner. If it fits, go for it.

Congrats on your pending nuptials!

I'm getting an error message on your BB link. BB offers a variety of cuts. You probably should look at the 1818s in the Fitzgerald, Milano or Regent styles. I like peak lapels, but if you only have one or two suits, you should probably stick with notch lapels.

Probably the best advice ive ever seen on here. OP if you like BOSS suit and if fits you well go for it. Brooks Brothers might work for some of the posters but it might not work for you. btw Congrats on your nuptials!

At first glance, I like this one: http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.processMerchant_Id=1&Section_Id=418&Product_Id=1502071&Parent_Id=216&default_color=GREY&sort_by=&sectioncolor=Grey&sectionsize=#null

Are the lapels (peak vs. notched) a big deal? Is it just preference?

I wonder how long there sales last and is this the best season to buy a suit? I'd love to be able to be patient and do more research but I don't want to pass up any great deals. Only having seen their site, I'm liking what Brooks Brothers offers for the money. Are they the one's that did the Mad Men type suit that I've read about?

I appreciate all the help from everyone.

I get an error on that link, but I think you are pointing to this suit:
http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=418&Product_Id=1502071&Parent_Id=216&default_color=GREY&sort_by=&sectioncolor=&sectionsize=#

Perfectly nice suit.

Peak vs. notch lapel, in general, peak is more formal, but, on a 2 button single breasted suit, it's a little flashy. If it's what you like, that's OK, but I would personally make a 2BSB peak a 5th or 6th suit, not my one and only. As an aside, the classic start out wardrobe is dark gray, navy blue, gray pinstripe, navy pinstripe. Then start branching out into the obsessive world of different and varied. The makes the presumption that you will wear suits all the time. If I were starting out, I would get a gray single breasted notch lapel, with a moderate (about 3.25 to 3.5 inch) lapel, and a blue blazer, and build from there.

Brooks has a number of (well, 4) cuts and is I think actively trying to appeal to a younger audience.
The Madison is the older guy suit, fuller cut, very conservative American.
The Fitzgerald (named for JFK) is picking up on the late 50's early 60's mod vibe with a trimmer cut and a narrower lapel.
The Regent is a slim modern cut. I think the one you like is a Regent.
The Milano is their idea of a very slim Italian cut. You probably need to be young an manorexic to fit into it. many on Style forum will therefore have fantasies about the idea.

The current sale ends on Jan. 4. There are several others throughout the year, but given that your wedding is in June, now is probably the time. Brooks suits are an OK deal on sale. I wouldn't e as excited about paying full price for them.

The Boss suit you linked is OK. It's not an amazing suit, but for the price it's not terrible. The Brooks suits, at about $150 more on sale, are probably made with slightly better material, and slightly better construction (I'm guessing, i haven't handled that Boss suit). You mention that it does not fit great in the crotch/thigh. There should be enough fabric in the pants so that Nordstrom's tailor will be able to let it out a bit. If not, don't get it. You will quickly get tired of wearing a suit that fits poorly through the crotch/ thigh. Cutting off the blood flow to that area also seems to be poor form on your wedding day.

Amazing contribution from Manton. Unfortunately it's missing a lot of the photos.

I was looking at doing the following suit for my wedding that I'm having in St. Lucia in June:

http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=419&Product_Id=1641054&Parent_Id=216&default_color=GREY&sort_by=newArrivals&sectioncolor=&sectionsize=

I tried on the 40 R jacket and it fit perfect. I'm looking for a medium gray suit and something that is not too heavy for the climate where we will be getting married. This seems like a good suit for the occasional. I know that it's probably not of the same quality as their 1818 suits as it's made in Thailand but this will be my wedding suit and a suit that I wear on occasional during the warmer months (April - Sep) back home. They didn't have the exact color in store and would have to order it but I thought about taking advantage of the current discounts that they have going with 25% off with  new BB card or 15% off all other purchase types.

The other suit I looked at was the following from Banana Republic:

http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=67017&vid=1&pid=421152&scid=421152002

I know that BR is frowned upon around here but the suit did fit nicely but was a tad bit warm but was also 30% off yesterday. It would have came out to approx $408 with tax where the BB sound will come out $570 - $647 with taxes and respective discounts.

Any opinions or feedback is greatly appreciated.

The BR suit jacket is too short on the model - be sure that the jacket covers your rear. In terms of styling and fabric though, these are both solid choices.

I see what you mean. When I tried it on, it did fit me better than that. The jacket was a 40R and the pants were 32/34. I'd probably have to have the leg taken up maybe an 1". I thought it was a good value because of the discount but it was a bit warmer of suit vs the BB suit. I really like it though. The BB suit jacket is a 40R as well but with a drop six. I'd have to get the waist taken in 2" by BB, they said it wouldn't be a problem.

I appreciate your feedback.

There are at least two a week on wedding suits so you have certainly not done any research. You would get a fuller answer by spending some time reading earlier threads.

Avoid the BOSS garment as well

Oh, sorry. You are probably right.

I did kind of narrow it down between 2 and have left the ambiguous questions behind months ago. I think forums are resourceful but they can also be time consuming. At the moment, I am handling a lot of things as my fiance is in Pharmacy School. Therefore, I have taken on a number of wedding planning responsibilities and all other normal household duties. I haven't even had time to think about my suit again until recently.

I will be going to Brooks Brothers in the morning to at least order the suit and hopefully once they get it in, it is what I'm expecting (color, fit). If not, I will return it.

If my last few posts seem off, please tell me what exactly to research or ask. I thought I was headed in the right direction. I am not trying to be lazy.
