A thread for the JIL & RAF shopper (clothing and footwear inclusive, but please post sneaker sizing inquiries here)

Let's focus on aggregating useful / interesting information (present or historical) about the brands, e.g.
  • stockists, new arrivals, sizing, good deals
  • runway/magazine shots, new and old
  • media coverage, designer interviews, critics' reviews
  • pr0n/reviews of particular items of clothing/non-sneaker footwear that you own, that you're interested in and wonder where2kop, that you handled in person, etc.
  • fit pics, of oneself or others, in RAF/JIL pieces
  • random anecdotes and stories related to these brands
  • etc.

This is not at all to say that opinions don't belong in this thread - everyone is welcome to post reviews of particular products or collections, say - but when voicing a negative opinion, please, make an effort to contribute something new and interesting. Don't just proclaim 'Raf is dead' (who would be surprised to hear this?), support it with some bit of novel and factually-informed argumentation. And if you don't like a particular piece, don't just say 'that's hideous/boring' (anything will be considered hideous/boring by someone in a forum as large as this), tell us why you think so or point out inconspicuous details on the piece that might deter potential buyers.

This applies to everyone except, of course, jet. :alien:

In general though, information, not opinions, is what this thread is primarily about. It goes without saying, but if one truly has only negative things to say about the brands, one shouldn't post here at all.

More posts coming...

:slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer:
now we need lanvin, balencicga, givenchy, Dior and YSL thread in the next.

I will start. For FW 11 items, I tried several coats it fits good and the material is nice. I also tried several knits of the season. It's nothing special but the color, several colors are not easy to pull off. For material I can say it's not excellent, just a little above average compare to other designer knits.

I like this short jacket in particular. There's different color one on ln-cc. I haven't handled the jacket in person yet, but from the picture, I think the jacket fits strange, nothing like the JIl jackets I've tried before. I don't know if it was designer to fit in that way.

^You should start the Lanvin thread!

Some detail shots of the fw11 quilted l/s tees from JIL, I've been trying to hunt down the white version. Hapsical has posted a very useful review of the short sleeve version in black (scroll down).

Interesting, I'll post some pics of some recent Raf/Jil acquisitions later. I have to say I have a bit of a love/hate feeling towards his clothing. I appreciate that he is one of the designers that is trying to push men into thinking differently about dressing in the modern world, but at the same time his aesthetic can be a bit ruled based and binding on its own. I remember reading an interview someone did with him and Dries Van Noten and a question was asked about is there anything you would consider off limits or some such theme. Dries answered that he would pretty much consider anything and thought he shouldn't be the one to tell people what to wear and what not to wear. Raf on the other hand said he was very much an authoritarian and wanted to dictate how men should dress and I think that comes off in many of his collections. A sense of being in a minimalist straitjacket so to speak. But I think he is relevant and has something to say and really have no patience for those who say Raf is out, or in for that matter. I think most of the really great designers have ups and downs, periods of inspiration and boredom and that Raf will be around for quite awhile and it will be interesting to see how his vision evolves over time.

By the way Yoox always seems to have a healthy supply of Raf and the prices are pretty good considering retail and if you don't mind being a season or two behind.

I have no interest in the sneakers, I think like most other designers, Lavin, Dsquared, etc, they are just boring, but that's just me, if you love it go for it.

it was just featured in a magazine shoot, so probably was put in production, but who knows where these mags source their clothes, i guess it could've been a sample

From a design point of view I agree, but a raf shopper (nowadays) is more likely than not also a jil shopper (and vice versa, but to a lesser extent)

That's interesting, I've noticed that several JIL outerwear pieces this season seem to kind of flare out in the back on the mrporter model (esp. obvious in the videos). I haven't tried any of these on in person though.

^ Yeah, kinda. But non of these jackets are noticeable as the black one I posted.

The SS 12 sweaters looks nice, I wonder how it look in person. It's not really knit, it's a woven and knit hybrid thing. i feel raf is doing some hybrid season(boots+loafer; hiking boot and sneaker)

Very interesting, thanks for the thoughtful contribution.
I remember the Detail interview you're referring to (may have posted it in RFT once). I didn't quite notice it at the time but upon re-reading it it was indeed quite obvious how different their attitudes are towards how men should dress. Worth a link: http://www.details.com/blogs/daily-...s-and-raf-simons-on-the-way-we-dress-now.html
Agreed re: him being in a minimalist straitjacket, though it's somewhat interesting to note he once said about his ss11 women's collections for JIL: "There had been all this talk of ’the new minimalism’. So I thought, *******, maximalism is what we want to do.” (interview in LOVE).

For me, the best thing about Yoox is its perennial supply of rafs in small sizes, the current collection doesn't have much that catches my fancy (doesn't fit me where it does), but I'm excited for when fw11 stock drops!

LVR has some mid distance full-body shots which probably give a reasonable approximation of how it looks IRL. Can't wait to see it in store though esp. in the grey + red/blue colorways

I wish Jil came back

I was just watching videos of old JIL runway shows a few days ago, will post pics if I find good quality ones
