Yes, definitely. I don't know much about post-Jil Sander, Jil Sander, but it is hard to detect any sort of stylistic change.

Thanks for linking the videos!

While many designer shows try to fit the most suitable tracks around a pre-designed collection, Raf seems to use music as a starting point, from which his collection is built. Even the titles of each presentation are habitually re-contextualized from songs, all of which address recurring themes of forbidden identity, gender ambiguity and the subterranean. For instance, past collections include Confusion (New Order), We Only Come Out At Night (Smashing Pumpkins), and Radioactivity (Kraftwerk). One collection even featured tops with images of Richey Edwards, the missing Manic Street Preachers guitaris. Though Raf is not even a die-hard Manic fan, this doesn’t mean that he has slipped into avoiding the implications embedded in his chosen reference. Rather, once again, he went farther to understand these ideas through the perspective of the fans, “I love to see the way they lose themselves completely in their own world” (v).

What the hell has Jil been doing for like ten years, besides the Uniqlo thing?  It seems like a ton of fashion designers just stop designing for long periods of time.

Still seems weird.  Fashion is the only art form I can think of where people just stop and retire, like it's a regular thing.

Oh my, that would be interesting to say the least! What direction would Jil take the Jil Sander brand in after Raf?

In December, there were media reports that Mr. Simons had had discussions with Dior about becoming creative director of the Paris house.

The way he's going that would be worse than KVA.. I wish he'd just focus on his own line.

Edit: horsehair boots are so comfy.

MILAN — Raf Simons is to exit Jil Sander after his fall fashion show here on Saturday.

The announcement comes amid intensified speculation that the house founder might return to the creative helm.

The Sander company said it would appoint a new creative director “in the next few days.”

After having been spotted earlier this month’s Première Vision in Paris, speculation is rife that Sander is getting ready for another comeback to the house that bears her name.

The designer recently told a reporter for WWD’s sister publication, WWD Japan, that she was working on a new project she couldn’t yet talk about, but that it would be announced during the Milan collections.

In 1999, Sander sold 75 percent of the company she founded in 1968 in Hamburg to the Prada Group, and made a highly publicized exit a year later.

Her return in May 2003 was widely welcomed, but she left the company again a short time later. Sander recently wound up a stint as guest designer for Uniqlo.

In a brief statement, the Sander company thanked “Simons for his dedicated commitment to the brand, throughout these years, and wishes him the very best for the future.”

It does indeed seem weird timing for all of this to get announced.
