Yohji, Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Looser Fit (Yohji Yamamoto Thread) - Page 19

Amazing! The AW04 gabardine is out of this world, so extremely nice. The balance and drape looks just right too, he's doing this shawl collar/robe/no button coats from time to time and they're an incredible part of his work. I think he did a coat very similar to this one for his AW99 show as well. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

BTW, thanks for posting that video. The crossroad theme didn't come through in the pictures and this just blew me away, I was absolutely blown away, it was beautiful. Such a perfect execution of the theme and it just fits so right in his work, I think your comment above is on point. Actually seeing the show, the clothes in motion just elevated the collection for me too. I think this is the best runway show he's done in a really long time and I'm sure the clothes will show equal greatness on the racks. With SS12 just out in stores and with this on the horizon, 2012 will be a good year. nod[1].gif

Yup, most definitely. It's going to be a challenge to not go for broke between the two collections lol8[1].gif.

The silk pieces from SS12 seem to be the highest priced items so far, averaging at 140k+ yen. I wonder how many of those will make it to the sales. There are two silk pieces that are on my "must buy" list so might have to cough up the dough somehow, but the wool and cotton stuff is not bad.

Is anybody else getting some pieces from SS12? I am definitely picking up the hakama pants, the ninja pants and a couple of jackets.

What are people looking to picki up and how do you think you will incorporate it into your wardrobe?

man that show was magnificent, I loved how the music fit with the mood of the garments he was going for.

honestly one of my favorite of the shows this fall, I was rather disappointed with every designer I like. This is so yohji, love how there isn't a hint of straying from his path. This is just like rick in that I can't truly appreciate every look until I see them in motion, so good.

Yohji also is great for the runway, the clothes tell a story but without resorting to extravagant nonsense ala thom browne, music helps a ton.

too bad I cant break free from shrinkwrap silhouettes lol

Wow, that's a really nice knit. Someone should definitely pick it up.

Love that color. i can vouch for these AW10 block knits, they're pretty great. I never tried the long ones but the regular length cardis were very nice in person. So light but felt warm and quite solid. They only had black (with specks of red) when I saw them in-store, had they stocked that color I probably would've considered picking one up. I've actually never seen this version (length or color) before, not in store and not online since then.

It's a very nice 100% wool gabardine and feels lighter than it actually is once worn. The drape is excellent. No buttons so it must be worn open and it has two slits near the shawl lapel that can be used to access trouser pockets. The positioning of the pocket slits also accentuates the shawl collar in a great way so it looks even better with hands in pockets while walking. It's not that warm and is more suited to spring or fall I think. Can't wait to have a chance to wear it out.

My pants from Gilt just arrived and I have to say, I can definitely get used to this look. I can already tell I'm going to live in these things once it gets a bit warmer. That is, unless I get more Yohji pants.

This makes me sad, I was half expecting a PM any day now. However, it's also good great news that you like them. Now you need to get a shirt, and then you'll realize you need a jacket as well and once you see that nothing ever felt that good to wear... icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Not really sure whether I am allowed to post the scans on here, but I have the complete Spring/Summer 2012 Japanese price list and release timetables. If anyone is interested in having it, shoot me a PM and I will send it to you.

Also, my first pick ups from SS12!

Basically all of look 7 (sans belt & shoes) (Click to show)

They're still with Drew in Japan, but should hopefully should be with me in about two or three weeks (getting them sent to the UK as it's cheaper) biggrin.gif

The hakama pants that came out this month are in some kind of fabric blend. Will confirm once I get the pants. The wool gabardine hakama pants are out next month and are the ones from look 37 (big guy, all black with a red belt and red socks) in case you are curious about seeing them in motion. The store said they didn't have up to a size 4 in the shirt, but that it is quite oversized, so I picked up a size 3. Not sure whether they just didn't make the shirt in a 4 at all or they didn't receive any. Will confirm sizing for anyone interested once I receive it.

Thought I would share this article on the sapeurs of Congo, a sub-culture of men dedicated to dressing in the best suits and accessories from the best designer houses. Posting it here specifically because of this quote -
Quote:
Soon Yves Kandaiz, a Sapeur friend of Kalubi, arrives dressed in a flowing black all-Yohji-Yamamoto outfit—a skirt and hooded-jacket combo that makes him look like one of the sand people in "Star Wars." Brazzaville Sapes worship classical fashion. Kin Sapeurs, they tell me, adore Yohji because his style is violent and brutal, in line with the spirit of their city. Where Salvador and Elyfontaine, over in Brazzaville, dressed, strutted and spoke like someone from a Somerset Maugham novel, Kalubi and Kandaiz take to the streets in an utterly different way: Kandaiz extends one arm and holds his jacket open, as if spreading a wing, to reveal the Yohji label inside. Kalubi stomps in the dirt like he's marching off to war.

Such an awesome description of Yohji's clothes lol8[1].gif. I am sure he would approve nod[1].gif
