Somehow, this close-up makes it look a lot worse than it really is..

I have this same wear-pattern on all my shoes. I've never tried toe-taps. Not a fan of how they look personally. I do like the shaved/integrated metal ones often seem on Vass or done custom by cobblers like B. Nelson in NYC. However, I'm worried with my gait that I will tap them loudly as I walk... and once I discovered that it would be too late.

I would not. That's normal shoe wear in my book.

Whilst I agree it could be described as normal wear for lots of folk, I still think it is prudent to add taps.

Unlike the heels, which can easily be repaired/replaced if the toe continues to wear down, it will compromise the stitching, welt etc and be a far more costly repair.

I would not. In my experience, toe tapping leads to nothing but trouble.

I would get some metal toe taps. I tried it now with my latest two pairs of shoes. There is no clicking sound and it prevents the tip nicely from getting worn down like that.

had them added to new pairs of shoes at no extra cost. I would not add it to the already run down soles but rather when you get them resoled (should not be expensive).

I'm not sure, but I feel that this thread needs a 'round the clock, 24/7 suicide watch.

Would you like to take the next shift? Starts at 11PM EST.

Let me know.
