Firsts, baby, that's how I roll (heavily discounted on Amazon, though :embar:). I wore them to the meet-up which I assume was why I was not included in the shoe circle.
You guys didn't want me showing y'all up. :fence:

Shell, shell, shell.

In particular - these monsters:

Thanks for all the input. Those are bad ass boots! They look to have leather soles, no issues in the rain? I was thinking I need something with rubber soles? Shell boots with rubber soles, such a thing?

I'm a firm believer that leather soles are fine for pretty much all weather that we are likely to get here in the UK. Others will probably disagree.

Sure - Shell & Dainite - no reason not to.

Double leather soles are okay in the rain, short of flooding.

I agree. Maybe they would not be suitable if you lived in Canada or something, but in the UK we rarely get any weather bad enough that leather soles aren't perfectly wearable.

Leather soles not so good in the wet - they reach a point where you are basically Torville and Dean - dainite all the way for me

I have never slipped over in the rain. I did nearly come a cropper once - wearing a pair of Barker Blacks. This was due to the fact that they had a full leather heel with exposed nails...

For rainy weather I usually wear my Alden shell longwings or high boots. If I need to be really dressed up, then I wear my overshoes with my better shoes.

Although both pairs of rain boots I mentioned earlier in this thread are chukka boots, I own a pair of shell cordovan high boots with a Dainite sole that I special-ordered from Martegani through Ron Rider that I wear on snow days. I have had leather soles soften considerably after stepping in a puddle, so I try to wear only rubber soles such as Dainite on rainy days. If the puddles aren't too deep, I'll wear a pair of EG Dovers with a Thames sole or RM Williams boots with a rubber sole, just for traction.

Pair of AE cliftons, mezlans, or boots, or overshoes when I know its going to rain.

All of my shoes have been caught in unexpected rain and none are worse for wear.
