What are "dad jeans"? Do I wear dad jeans? + jean suggestions

First off, I am 26 and have been updating my wardrobe. To date, I've been wearing four or so jeans which are Free World and tappered. Jeans have been the last priority on my list, but it hit me today that I might be wearing "dad jeans". Unfortunately, I'm not fully sure what that means so I'm not certain if I'm wearing them.

In any case, here's a pic. Are these "dad jeans"?

They're a little baggy, but these are jeans I've had when I was 30 pounds heavier (still 10 more pounds to lose). I'm allready down to a waist 28, so I don't know what I'll do if i lose more weight.

Also, I need general jean suggestions.

Any suggestions for slim fit, straight leg, dark wash jeans that are in the $40-$90 range (lower the better).

I say lower because I'm going to need to go out and buy 3 or 4 pairs over the next few weeks.

Thanks!

I wear jeans to work every day, minus the odd occasion where I go in chinos or slacks.

Generally, I wear a pair two days and then move to the next pair.

I do have some Lands End Chino's on the way, plus a pair of Vintage cord in vintage slim fit from J.Crew. Ok, so maybe I only need one or two more pants.

Yep, those are dad jeans. In order to gain basic acceptance in this forum you'll need to purchase selvedge denim, MMM GATs, and a TOJ leather. However if you want acceptance in the real world, then get some Diesel jeans and a Schott leather. If this all seems unaffordable at the moment, then I suppose you could exile yourself to the JCrew or Club Monaco threads along with the other misfits.

I sense the sarcasm, but I'm an engineer, so the finances aren't much of an issue, but I'd still rather pay less than more What rational human being wouldn't?

$40 - $90 is kind of tough. How about something from Levi's?

Here is how I would define Mom/Dad jeans. Mom jeans or Dad jeans basically are something your parents would wear. For a lot of people, at some point, time will stand still for them fashion-wise. At that point they continue wearing what was fashionable for them at some point and is now out of style. Right now Dad jeans are high waisted, etc.

skip the 4 pair of $40-90 jeans and drop $200-300 on one really good, well fitting and flattering pair of good raw/selvage denim and just wear them every damn day. Wash them every 3 months or so and you're all set.

I'm guessing the above advice seems foreign to you...but trust me, it's the way to go. Plus, think of how nice it is not to have to wash jeans every week! Check our RRL for some very accessible fits and a reasonable price point. Also, if you live in a large city, you may have a good denim shop in your area...if so go check it out and try on a bunch of different jeans to see what works for you. You only need one really good pair of jeans even if that is all you ever wear.

This is a fucking fashion forum. Pretty much all of us spend more than we need to on clothes. If you really don't give a shit just go to h&m or zara or Le us and buy dark, decently slim denim.
