Can you narrow ties without messing them up?

Is it possible to narrow ties without altering their proportions or messing them up? I have quite a few nice ties that I want to keep but they are ~ 3.5" and I wanted to drop them to 2.75-3.0".

My local tailor says he does this all the time but does anyone have actual experience with it? Are the ties are okay afterwards? I'm worried the proportions will look odd or the fabric will be messed up with the multiple creases?

Also, does anyone in the Los Angeles area have a tailor they have worked with for this before?

Thanks!

Yes. Not in LA but they have a great reputation in these parts and across the interwebz. Especially good if you have multiple ties you want altered.

Lam's Tailoring in Rowland Heights - did 4 ties for me, $15 a pop. Came out exactly as expected.
