need help changing from corporate to less boring business casual look

Thread Starter

I am moving overseas for a bit and will have roughly two suitcases worth of clothes.  Environment will be 4 seasons, straight business casual M-F erring towards casual, no suits required.  I will be purchasing new clothing as my current wardrobe for work is straight boring corporate business casual that needs to retire.

I am hoping for some very interchangable suggestions on the basics of style to acheive a classy everyday look - think something like Steve McQueen or professor-esque?

I started a list of what I am packing based on the art of manliness website, hopeing for any tips/suggestions on styles/colors/etc.

-1 Pair Dress Shoes

-2 Pair Casual Leather Shoes

-Belts that match above shoes

-2 Dress Shirts

-2 Ties

-2 Pair Slacks, Dark & Light

-2 Pairs of well-fitting Jeans

-4+ Button-up collared sport shirts

-3 Solid Polo Shirts

-3 Sweaters

-5+ Undershirts

-1 Sports Jacket

-1 Simple Dress Watch

-1 Overcoat

-1 Pair Leather Gloves

-1 Hat

I think youre right in your list. The most important thing is to find brands or cuts that are slim or modern and fit just right to begin with. Not looking like a corporate drone actually starts with getting in shape so that you can wear a modern silhouette without looking like a sausage. No offense and not insinuating you need to lose weight, but if you do, better to not waste money on nice potentially expensive clothing that won't look great/fit later.
