What kind of dress shoes should should i purchase?

Hello everyone, this is my first post in the forum.  I'm a young professional (27 yrs old) trying to build up my wardrobe, and I need a new pair of brown dress shoes.  I'm looking for something that I can wear in the office with slacks and a dress shirt, and that I can occasionally wear with a suit.  I'd like it to be a bit modern looking, but also classy.  I'm hoping to spend under $500.  Does anyone have any recommendations?  I was thinking of buying the C&J Audley, but I think it might be a little too expensive.

Once again, BB Peal and Co "Made in England" oxfords are mainly Crocket & Jones and are currently on sale for less than $300.

Good advice. Here is some more good advice: you may want to edit the title of your thread to include the word "shoes", although I must admit it piqued my interest. happy.gif

You should check out a pair of Trickers in Beechnut. The feel and smell of the leather is wonderful.

Allen Edmonds for price and availability. Go to a store or Nordstroms and try them.

All great suggestions and remember to keep the shoes as simple as possible so you can wear them with anything

Yes.
Three eyelet derbies (bluchers).
IMHO, your choice are a bit formal for slacks and a dress shirt.

Something like the Darmouth from C&J would bridge the informal- more formal divide.
