WW Chan vs. Samuelsohn... or Something Else? - Page 2

If you are so indecisive, then any cheaper option is probably for you. Chan is high end bespoke, others less so to varying degrees. I get the feeling that you will regret this opetion, regardless of its higher quality so wait until you feel ready to move to bespoke.

I would always go for bespoke

there is no way that OTR would fit better than bespoke, given Chan's men are experience and know what they are doing

Go for Chan, although it will probably be more expensive

Gets some HF on sale and bring it to a good tailor. Should cost you $600 all in.

I completely agree. I started wearing suits on a daily basis over a year ago, and have since done a complete 180 in terms of preferences. At first, I started off with close-fitting suits with soft shoulders and tapered pants but now completely favour strong shoulders and wider pants. Specifically, I used to love my Z Zegna Drop 8 and the Zegna Milano cut, but now will tend to wear my Z Zegna City and the mainline Roma cut. My next suit will almost definitely be a Roma.

Spending that much money on a first suit may not be the best thing to do. I paid almost double for my Milano than I did for the Roma, and while I don't regret owning both, it's certainly money I could have saved. It's funny how you don't really develop your own sense of style and taste until you really look at yourself on a daily basis. But that's my $0.02.

That's a lot of money for one suit to start your wardrobe. If you know what you're doing, then go for Chan. But if you're not sure, then maybe you should explore other options first.

I was down to these two a couple years ago and went w/ Chan. I'm very happy I took that route, and I've had a few more things made by them since. But I think it was very helpful to have gone to HK for a week and have multiple fittings. I think Chan can produce a better garment than Samuelsohn and you'll have a broader set of options with them. But if all you want is a well-fitting plan navy suit, and if you know a place that is really good at fitting customers, Samuelsohn is not a bad option.
