Help with blazer/sportcoat sizing and fit

Hey guys,

I'm a bit of a newbie here and am trying to build a new wardrobe. I recently lost a lot of weight and had to size down significantly with most of my clothing. I'm now wearing 31 or 32 pants (depending on the brand). My chest is measuring about a quarter to a half inch under 39". After trying on this blazer in the showroom, the 40 was too baggy and the 38 seemed to be a bit tight. I think I've got a bit more weight to lose across the stomach area and the chest, so a 38 may fit. I was wondering, though, what the StyleForum folks think of how it fits and whether or not if I continue my trend of loss it would be good to keep it? Also, how easy would it be to get it altered to let it out?

I've attached some photos.

Looks tight around the seat area. You may be best with a Size 50EUR which would translate to a 39 US.

Yeah, that's what I'm beginning to think. I took another quick photo with a different, slimmer-fit shirt on it (and I think I've lost a little more since the original photos in this thread). Apologies for the low quality and lack of tuck on the shirt. It seems to be a little better in the chest, but still is snug like you noted.

The shoulders look good to me. Without seeing it, I'd be afraid the next size up would have too big shoulders. The rest of the fit around the body can be adjusted by your tailor as needed.

I have come across a nice blazer. It is regular fit. I follow its size guide and after measuring I find my chest size is 35". So should I choose size 34R (EU 44R) or 36R(EU46R)? Thank in advanced.

Whichever fits better. It can vary depending on brand and cut.

I see you stopped caring about your anonymity.

In terms of 34/36? Get a slim cut 36, i would stay away from 34 since everything else is usually generally proportional (shorter sleeves and length on jacket)
